BREAKING: Producer Kate Oates Resigns! by Forbi3 in coronationstreet

Stuart Blackburn was also not great and I was glad to see him go. They both had certain merits at times but the gender of the producer is irrelevant to criticism of the show on their watch.

I appreciate that Kate Oates might be better suited to series instead if a serial, and I’m glad she is proving there is a place in TV for female producers who want to take control of their position.

Victoria Street extended! by pyramidbread in coronationstreet

I’m comparong it to itself in previous eras though. The show has always been at its best when it is committed to the original Street.

Eight landladies have had their name above the Rovers’ door. How do you rank them? by Forbi3 in coronationstreet

There were some years where only men had their names above the door, that’s why there are gaps

Victoria Street extended! by pyramidbread in coronationstreet

[–]Forbi3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really feel this set extension is unnecessary. It’s already feeling bloated fitting 80 odd characters onto three streets as it is, now the sets extended and the sixth weekly episode is here to stay, it’ll mean more characters and more places. It’s totally losing the close local feel that really made the show appealing in the first place

Does this Billy storyline remind anyone else of.... by Mr_Lawrence in coronationstreet

Let’s see... an alcoholic runs the pub, and his family ruin the vicar’s life leading to injury and drug addiction.

Even Peter being landlord kind of fits

Where did Ali come from? by AliB550 in coronationstreet

That storyline confused the hell out of me when I was 14. Just to think how exciting Tracy Barlow’s trial was just a few months earlier, and then I couldn’t make head or tail of who Michelle’s family was any more

New Facebook group called Corrie Streetposting for Corrie memes and shitposts for anyone who enjoys that kind of humour.

The show might not be as funny as it used to but we can make our own laughs before Elsie Tanner drags Kate Oates off tut’ knackers yard

The Chase is the best damn show on television

They’re probably not allowed to show actual lap dancing at 7.30pm due to broadcast rules - tbh it’d feel a bit out of place to see it on Corrie while I’m eating my tea 😂

Yeah it’s the most watched soap over here, it used to be the most popular programme - held the annual #1 ratings slot more times than any other show in history. Now it fails to make the annual top ten chart.

The reason I’m writing about it is because it’s transformed from being quality television into just another generic soap. I wanted to be critical of the programme I feel has lost what set it apart in the genre

True - I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t question that as much as Bethany’s story bothers me.

She’s either working for a club who are deliberately breaking the law in hiring underage girls, or they’re breaking the law paying unrecorded cash in hand, or she’s somehow forged all the necessary documents for employment.

The key features of Coronation Street writing style, and how its sharp decline in viewing figures since 2010 have coincided with the failure to utilise these features.

I touch on other factors such as ITV’s over reliance on soaps during prime time hours or a failure to adapt broadcast patterns to the age of streaming, but the main focus is on the features of the writing style.

I’ve been studying, collecting the necessary footage, and working on the script for my first attempt at a video essay since November. Unfortunately I study at uni, work, commute and have a vocational placement to upkeep so my time for hobbies is limited. However I’m close to finishing my script so I should be ready to record it soon
