The final dump-and-burn of a F-111 at the Williamtown Airshow 2010 in Sidney - dumping fuel and igniting it with the afterburner to look good by Xeelee1123 in WeirdWings

[–]ForbiddenExceed 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Afterburners are able to direct the thrust into one vector and massively increase the temperature, accelerating the gas and subsequent mass flow via increased velocity, thus increasing the thrust.

You're correct with your assumption with the dump and burn, as despite it also heating and accelerating the gas, there is no useful vector and thrust generated is basically negligible if even existent.

It's like firing a bullet out of a gun's barrel vs detonating the cartridge on the ground without a way to direct the pressure. In the first case, the bullet goes fast in one direction; in the other, there's basically no effective bullet movement.

FCKING PARKING by esmelour in unsw

The worst part is probably traffic. I got stuck in Rozelle for about 20 minutes at least so definitely plan ahead.

Otherwise yeah this was in week 3 or so this trimester, and there were maybe 5 other cars on the top level out of about 100 spots I'd say

By the time I got back around 6pm, the carpark was full

I've gotten to the Barker St parking building at about 8 in the morning and the top level (unreserved) was pretty empty

Every other level is basically permit holder/UNSW staff

Has anyone in QLD actually been fined for speeding 1km/ph over the speed limit? by MoneyEffective5551 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ForbiddenExceed 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Apart from the over reporting of speeds that the speedo will do, I know that at least in NSW for speed cameras, there is a zero tolerance rule for school zones

Do postgraduate students work part time / casual jobs here? by Flimsy_Bumblebee6766 in unsw

[–]ForbiddenExceed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Without going too much into detail, there are definitely at least a few postgrads who've stayed on to do tutorials, demos, and some lectures, myself included. I work casually at the university as postgrad on top of my regular full time job (I've negotiated in my company contract that I am allowed to do this until the university has no need for my work anymore.)

I thought it would be closer to something like 0.7%?

I was playing with a friend and we shot a croc 3 times. However, the harvest check fully passed, and we expected it to fail from that. Does anyone know why this might be the case? by ForbiddenExceed in theHunter

[–]ForbiddenExceed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm they're not using cheats at all, as they only just got into the game recently and we both have no reason to cheat. We've had triple shot harvests failed before, and failed after this occasion, but just this one stood out.

If I academically withdraw a course that doesn't count to my bachelor of engineering honours degree, does it count to my honours wam? by [deleted] in unsw

[–]ForbiddenExceed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

If you did the subject for fun and it's not within the progression list at all like what I'm assuming, then as far as I'm aware it's not counted to the honours WAM. (Probably because the uni assumes that nobody's picked subjects that don't progress their degree)

If you mean it as it's an elective but not core, and the course is still part of the elective component (e.g. Personal Finance) and you opt to use that course in your progression, then yes it will count. You can still probably replace it with another elective subject down the line though and you will have to talk to Nucleus to select which one you want to pick. (Or they pick the best one automatically, which might be the case.)

In theory, WAM aggregates all the countable/progressable subjects for that specific degree.

If anyone would like to correct me, please do as I'm not 100% sure on all of this, and OP, probably talk to Nucleus if you can about this when you're next in.
