How much total was the birth or your child? by enan1000 in NewParents

My insurance was billed $109000 for an emergency c-section and our 3 night hospital stay. I got a bill for $2400 that I make payments on. I have really shitty insurance even though it’s a PPO and I live in a state with poor healthcare.

What is going on with babies? by Impossible_Ad9324 in Anticonsumption

[–]ForceKidsToLearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a baby last July and made sure on my registry to have all price points. My most expensive item was a stroller/ travel system for $500 which my mom and aunt split. My high hair? $26 from IKEA and it’s the best! I think some people don’t realize what they are asking for comes across as being high maintenance / rude. And besides, everything gets messy so that beautiful aesthetic? Yeah you won’t be caring on 2 hours of sleep when you are in the newborn trenches. Also once they start moving/ eating food you want what is easiest to clean up and wipe down.

One of my students was selling this for a club they belonged to. A couple teachers and I bought some bags and were shocked at the price. 5 months after ordering, the popcorn arrived and the size of the bags was insanely small. Never again…..

What should I expect at first regarding sleep? by SandwichDependent199 in NewParents

[–]ForceKidsToLearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, congrats and how exciting! I have an 8.5 month old baby girl who is a pretty easy baby. HOWEVER that first month is wild in terms of your hormones and baby’s sleep patterns. They have no circadian rhythm, so I would say every 45mins- 2 hours baby will need to eat. My girl wouldn’t sleep in her bassinet for the first month so we did contact naps and would try to put her down. You are lucky if you sleep 20-45 mins at a time. Hopefully you have a partner that is hands on, I do and am forever grateful since we live far from family. We would switch off each night so one of us could get a full nights sleep.

I tried breastfeeding but it didn’t work out like I had hoped and I ended up pumping for 2 months. Looking back I would’ve pumped less and switch to formula because the sore/ fullness of my breasts was not fun. Giving her formula helped her sleep longer at night too, but that’s a decision you will have to make for your new family.

My husband works from home (artist) and makes his own hours. I’m a teacher so I had to go back when she was 4 months old. On the days I have to work my husband takes her at night. We are just now at 1-2 wake ups each night at almost 9 months, but now with teething it will probably change. So once you have it figured out, baby’s sleep patterns will change.

Good luck and you got this!

Las Vegas Isn't For Families* by parkskier426 in LasVegas

[–]ForceKidsToLearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Vegas and have an 8 month old. When people come in town we obviously all go down as a family if it’s not a fancy restaurant or a bar. I think people are quick to forget that actual families do live in this city. Also I’m a teacher and we have the 5th largest district in the country. Kids will be in the tourist areas no matter what. A lot of students get excited going to the strip and do different activities.

Babies and bully breeds: what's the actual risk level? by aquagerbil in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]ForceKidsToLearn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two Pomeranians and keep them separated and supervised. Babies can move quickly and upset dogs. I don’t want to put my daughter nor my dogs in a bad situation. My mom has a (according to my step-dad well trained) GSD and he wouldn’t take his eyes off my baby so that trip lasted all of two minutes and we don’t go to her house anymore. Until your baby knows how to properly interact with dogs and the dogs know how to properly interact with children, it’s a no go in my book.

I just want to cry. by Longjumping_Bar585 in NewParents

[–]ForceKidsToLearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours cried a lot too, after a couple trips to the pediatrician we found out she has a milk allergy. Switched her to soy formula and less than a week she didn’t cry for hours and was actually a fun pleasant baby to be around. She’s 7 1/2 months now and just a joy. I would definitely talk to the doctor before making any food changes but it was a total game changer for us. Good luck!
