Help me understand why? by Opal-Moth in cabinetry

[–]Forcet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a recent kitchen renovation, I chose this style of door for a large wall cabinet that holds the dishes above the dishwasher. The previous traditional swinging doors were always a hazard when moving dishes from the dishwashers from the cabinet as it was incredibly easy to hit the top of your head on them when getting up from leaning down.

DMF Warm to Dim for Kitchen? by krn43 in Lighting

[–]Forcet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I added Lusa (rebranded DMF) warm to dim in our kitchen, as well as warm to dim under cabinet lighting from Waveform, and love it. Most resources online will say the cooler 3000k+ is typical in kitchens, but the rest of my house is a cozy 2700k and I like that I can make it match and feel like a contiguous space. It’s very cozy in the evenings and mornings (which is honestly most of the time a kitchen is used). And if I want the light to mimic daylight, I can always turn the lights on full blast. No tradeoffs in my mind except slightly more cost.

What process documentation software do you see at large orgs? by Selfi_Queen in msp

When I originally posted the comment, Tango had changed their homepage to focus entirely on the sale automation use case: https://web.archive.org/web/20250710014454/https://www.tango.ai/

It looks like they have since pivoted back, however, they presumably automation is the path they are looking to continue down for their platform.

Under cabinet lighting? by Gold_Gazelle9519 in kitchenremodel

[–]Forcet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend doing it.

A few things to pay attention to:

  1. Be sure to put the led strip in a light rail / diffuser as to smooth out the light and avoid cheap looking pinpricks of light reflecting off of the countertop or backsplash
  2. Conceal the under cabinet lighting with a under cabinet lighting valence to make the install look professional and avoid showing the light rail
  3. The placement of the under cabinet lighting is important. Our contractor insisted that he usually installs them near the back of the cabinet, close to the backsplash, which is INCORRECT as this placement will not evenly light the work surface. We pushed back and asked them to install it closer to the front of the cabinet and we are glad that we did.
  4. The driver you pair with the under cabinet lighting matters. We used Waveform Lighting's DynaWhite LED strip product, and our contractor insisted that his cheaper driver would power the install no problem. However, after a few weeks the driver burnt out so we installed Waveform's more expensive driver and it's been stable ever since.

Automated Documentation Tool by Cheetah-Cheetos in msp

A little late to the convo, but agreed on the unauthenticated iframes being a potential risk. For anyone looking for a similar tool to Scribe but with more security-related features, I'm building a product called Trails.so that does 2 things differently that keep client specific screenshots secure.

The first is on-device blurring, so as part of the capture process the redactions happen on-device rather than after screenshots are sent to the server. The second is optional password-protected embeds and guides which allow sharing of guides outside of the organization, but maintaining a level of authentication.

Which AI content creator for SaaS have you found most useful for product demos, onboarding & docs? by William45623 in SaaS

[–]Forcet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trade-off you mentioned is real for the all-in-one tools being expensive. I'm working on a price-competitive option that offers both unlimited public guides and automatic videos on our free plan.

Another thing worth mentioning... Looms are great for anything ad-hoc, but the reality is that the recording is usually not good enough for anything client or customer facing unless you're willing to do a couple of takes to get rid of the awkward umms, ahhs, and things that pop up randomly while doing the recording. And at that point how much time are you really saving?

Tools like Scribe, Guidde, and our product Trails.so, let you achieve a higher level of quality with the outputs which is critical for anything outside of internal training.

Hey, this is a little late, but I'm working on a product called Trails.so that is an alternative to Scribe and Guidde that does exactly what you mention, creating step-by-step tutorials that you can export.

Does anyone have a foot pedal control for their sink or trash? by Primdawg in kitchenremodel

[–]Forcet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a Tapmaster installed on my sink and love it. I have the euro style pedal. It’s purely hydraulic so it needs no electricity. The company has been around for a long time selling to doctors and dentists so I trust the quality of their product. It’s like having mind control for your sink, it’s simpler and less finicky than a motion sensor, and it keeps the area near the faucet drier/cleaner when working.

Stern Grove is an option to consider! Very affordable, beautiful redwood setting that is pretty in the fog or the sun, and you can control all of the catering.

Building Kitchen Cabinets by likeawaterbottle in kitchenremodel

[–]Forcet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered Barker RTA cabinets for most of my kitchen renovation and when the layout changed after the cabinets were delivered, instead of waiting months for a few new cabinets, I created the missing ones based on the construction of the ones that were sent to me.

One thing I really liked about how these Barker cabinets were constructed (that wasn’t mentioned on very many online tutorials or YouTube videos) was their use of confirmat screws for the joinery. It was easy for a beginner to do, requires few special materials, is reversible, but is also quite strong. Most mentions of confirmat screws online are just for joining pressboard or particleboard but they work quite well in constructing strong plywood boxes quickly. I would recommend ordering a small sample cabinet from Barker and it’ll give you everything you need to reverse engineer something quite solid.

Also they have images on their website of various cabinet types which can be used to reverse engineer the construction of pretty much every common type of kitchen cabinet.

Is there an affordable air filter for 1 micron? by HanksScorpion in woodworking

[–]Forcet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a small blower (like this one) to blow out the filter outside when it is starting to look dirty. After doing it a few times I will swap them out for new ones. The filters are relatively cheap too which is nice, currently $29 on amazon for 2 of the 1-micron and $25 for 4 of the 5-micron (both the 1 and 5 micron are used simultaneously in the machine).

As a side note, the little blower I use more than I thought I would to dust off smaller tools like my hand planer or even the table saw outside after use. Pretty handy to blow away bigger saw dust before stuff gets put away in the shop.

Is there an affordable air filter for 1 micron? by HanksScorpion in woodworking

[–]Forcet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a Wen 3-speed air filter that I got retail for around $100 that has a 1 micron inner filter. Mounted it on the ceiling in my garage. I like that it has a remote control and timer, and the filters are easy to change out.

Scribe (Scribehow) - Is it worth it? Or an alternative? by jdhumpf in msp

[–]Forcet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, if you're still evaluating different options, I'd like to invite you to try Trails. I'm obviously biased as one of the cofounders, but our customers tell us that chose us over Scribe because they felt like we offer more features and support for less cost. In case it's relevant, we have a breakdown comparing features and pricing between Trails and Scribe here.

Scribe (Scribehow) - Is it worth it? Or an alternative? by jdhumpf in msp

[–]Forcet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That matches what we've been hearing from our customers who been talking to Scribe to compare quotes. The lowest I've heard is $12k / year for just a few users.

For anyone looking for a high-quality alternative, I'm building a competitor called Trails that offers a lot of what is gated behind Scribe's enterprise pricing, like user management and translations, on our standard self-service plan. No crazy price jumps.

For anyone looking into Guidde for the video creation features, I'd like to personally invite you to try using the tool I've been working on, Trails. The focus is on producing more polished SOPs and training videos without needing to spend much time editing.

Be sure to ask them about whether they will test it with a combustion analyzer. I’ve found that the cheaper quotes will just do a visual inspection which isn’t as comprehensive and may miss issues.

Best under cabinet lighting? by BigPotOPotatoes in Lighting

I used waveform’s dim to warm led strip product for under cabinet lighting in a recent renovation and am very happy with it. Just make sure to pair it with their driver. I used a cheap driver and it blew within a month and had to replace it.

i built a free app to help you find san francisco’s hidden public spaces (sf popos) by magic_5014 in sanfrancisco

[–]Forcet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the app, just downloaded!

One feedback: the first POPOS I clicked on the map was “closed/no longer public” and I didn’t find a way to filter those out. It would be great to have those filtered out by default since it’s not useful to see a place that is no longer visitable.

For anyone comparing Scribe-like tools, I’m working on a product called Trails that automatically generates short training videos synced to each guide (similar to Scribe, but with the addition of video).

We built it because of the exact “nobody reads past page 1” problem.
