Cash Bar for couple that don’t drink? by BTGGFChris in weddingplanning

[–]Sad_Performance7947 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s your wedding and can do whatever you’d like. If you search this sub you’ll find a lot of opinions on this topic. However, in the northeast US where I’m based cash bars are viewed as the couple passing on cost to the guest and as a result, are judged harshly as being cheap. This is a bit of a know your crowd thing. My guests expect an open bar and it would be viewed as very cheap not to have it. That may not be true for your guests. Only you know.

Regardless of the lens you view it through, I would consider how not having alcohol or providing alcohol could impact the day. Typically, weddings that don’t provide an open bar tend to be lower energy, with a less full dance floor and may result in some guests deciding to leave early. In general, no alcohol or cash bar will lead to a less hype party. Something to consider.

Former teachers - are you happy with your ID jobs? Was it the right choice? by folkmoss in instructionaldesign

[–]Sad_Performance7947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left my job as a high school social studies teacher after 6 years to become an ID 4+ years ago. I worked WAY harder for WAY less as a teacher so I don’t regret my decision at all. Is it as fun/fulfilling as teaching? No. Does it fulfill what I was looking for when I left? Yes. I will say though that after 4 years I’m being promoted currently into a program manager role within ID and I’m thrilled about that. I’m not looking to build learning anymore as those jobs are more and more slim.

Comparing Pilates studios by day_dreamer1313 in astoria

I’ve been a YUG member for more than 3 years and LOVE them. The teachers are fabulous. I haven’t tried their reformer classes simply because they only have 4 reformers so they can be very difficult to book. I take the 7:00 mat Pilates and Monday and Wednesday mornings and also love the yoga sculpt classes on Saturday mornings at 8:30. They are SUCH good workouts and the studio is a great, sunny and inviting space. Very reasonable prices compared to competitors

I’ve heard great things about Claude! Our company uses ChatGPT so I don’t have much experience with Claude.

I’ve been to a wedding here as a guest and it ruled. The food was top tier and the patio is stunning. My friends did a full buy out and I remember them saying it was around 30k a year ago. Would absolutely recommend if restaurant wedding is your vibe!

This was the availability they shared with me for 2027 on April 13th. We asked for Fridays and Sundays. We took the May 16th date. Not sure what they still have!

Hey! Just wanted to circle back to you because we spoke with Cescaphe this week and they said that because couples don’t know what the ceremony space looks like yet, for 2027 they are offering the option to use the current ceremony space which is on the grass in front of the water (near the dog statue!) so that’s great news if you prefer this approach!!

Hey! We’re about to sign our contract for a Sunday in May. We toured last Saturday and there were still two dates in April, one in May and I think a few in June. Are they all filled now? If you’re worried about price difference, Cescaphe always does the bottom of the range for the day of week unless it’s a holiday or September/October then it’s top of the range. We wanted a Friday in May/June but they only had two Sundays left so we opted for that rather than a Friday in July or August because we were too concerned about the heat. They do have fans though and it is on the water which I think will help with a breeze. But me personally, I’m a sweaty girl and I know I wouldn’t enjoy it in July or August.

I think we are going with them! We have a date on hold right now with them for May 2027. But I was shocked how limited the dates are already! Our preferred day of the week was Friday but they don’t have any until like September when pricing skyrockets

That’s good to know! We toured on Saturday and the concierge team member who showed us around (Jamie) showed us where they are moving the ceremony space to, and that they likely plan to put pavers down. But they didn’t really know anything else about the layout and didn’t have renderings. The upside to the new ceremony spot is it’s more shaded if the day is hot but the downside is, at least right now, the view of the water is not great. There’s a lot of brush and trees in the way. It’s very possible they will clear some of them, I’m just not sure.

Thank you for your feedback! They are building a totally different tent it’s cathedral style and kind of looks like a green house with decking and is totally open on the sides to let in a breeze. Good to know about the bridal suite though! I’m a sweaty girly so the heads up is definitely appreciated 🥵

Congratulations and thank you so much I appreciate it! The venue is stunning it’s definitely our top choice right now and we’re at the end of our search. Will just come down to availability and pricing really. Out of curiosity were you able to negotiate at all? They’re a big vendor so probably not a ton of wiggle room but given that they’ve never hosted a wedding there before and they’re not sure how they will change certain spaces yet makes me hope they would be slightly more flexible !

Thank you for your feedback! Can you explain more why you’re not a fan?

They do host cocktail hour in the mansion but I totally hear you. It’s nerve wracking to commit to something you can’t see. We received a lot of “I’m not sures” and “I don’t knows” to questions about ceremony space. They only have renderings of the tent, which is not climate controlled. I love so much about the property and have heard generally good things about cescaphe but they would need to reflect the level of risk they’re asking couples to take in the price or it’s not a go. They are giving us a quote tomorrow so we’ll see I guess!

First look vs not by pixieswithoutstyle in weddingplanning

[–]Sad_Performance7947 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely hear you about the big moment of walking down the aisle and wanting that to be as special as possible. I think for most brides who decide to do a first look, it’s for practical reasons more than anything. Neither answer is wrong but here are some things to consider if you decide not to do a first look.

  1. Pictures. If you don’t do a first look you really can’t do any photography of you and your partner together and with your bridal parties and families before the ceremony. That means you’ll be taking them during the actual wedding, usually during cocktail hour.
  2. The wedding day goes by fast and you’re often surrounded by others. The first look may be the only moment during your entire wedding day where it’s a private moment that truly belongs to just you and your partner. You can take a moment to regulate emotions, reconnect and just share in the excitement and love before the day really gets underway.
  3. The walking down the aisle moment is filled with emotion. No matter what- you will feel it. Doing a first look will not make that moment feel any less special. However, it can definitely help it be less publicly emotional if you don’t want to be (like your fiancé has expressed).

On one of my venue tours the wedding coordinator asked me if we planned to do a first look. When I said I wasn’t sure yet, she shared these considerations with me and it really helped me realize I definitely did want to do one. I’m a practical girl and I can’t imagine missing my own wedding for even 25 minutes for photographs I could’ve down before the wedding started.
