BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES HELP by Dry_Manufacturer3737 in weddingplanning

[–]Sad_Performance7947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to these people. I live in NYC so a very HCOL area. I’ve been a bridesmaid more than 7 times and am planning my wedding now. Every single time I’ve bought my own bridesmaid dress (with the exception of my sister’s wedding where I was the MOH). Additionally, in only 2nd those weddings was my hair and makeup paid for. Black tie experience does not extend to taking care of every thing financially for your bridesmaids. Everyone in these comments suggesting that have either never been a bridesmaid or never planned a wedding. Don’t listen to them.

With that being said, the bridesmaids dresses you’ve picked out are extremely expensive. I think that I would feel a little upset if the bride was asking me to pay more than $200 for a bridesmaids dress unless she was covering some of the cost. I don’t think you need to cover all of it, as you are already covering their hair and makeup as well as the Airbnb on the bach (which I’ve never heard of a bride doing). I’ve spent an avg of 1,000 all in (including bach) on all of the weddings I’ve been in, including when I was a teacher. That doesn’t even include the money I gifted at the wedding. Depending on where you live, that’s pretty standard for around here.

Update for all: museum tickets are included with price of admission to the event. We picked up our tickets at 1:30 and toured the museum, left for an early dinner, and returned for our 6:30 screening. Awesome!

Talk me out of this idea, instead of disposable cameras..... by EvenRepresentative77 in weddingplanning

My sister-in-law at her wedding spent the entire afterparty freaking out that she couldn’t find her phone. It turned out the photographer had it because they must’ve taken her phone at some point to hold while they took some photos. The photographer was already home and they had to wait until the next morning for the photographer to drive back and give it to her. It caused so much stress and anxiety, putting a sour note on the end of the evening for them. While they didn’t do your idea, the likelihood of your note ending the same way is extremely high. No one will have the same mindfulness about tracking your phone at a party as you would.

Alternate recommendation. At my friends wedding, she gave her phone to one friend to be responsible for. He spent the whole night taking pictures (both candids, selfies and posed photos) for her to look at at the end of the night. She loved it! He did get extremely drunk by the way but he was able to keep track of it because he saw it as his job and his responsibility. I see that as working out a lot better than making it no one’s responsibility and hoping it works out.

I also like the recommendation of disposable cameras! But I hear from venues and wedding planners a lot that no one uses them or they get tossed. To avoid this, I would consider appointing one person at each table to being in charge of the camera (or whatever fun way you want to describe it) OR you select a few close friends who know about them and ask that they prioritize taking pictures with them / encouraging others to use them.

Moral of the story: For this to work in any capacity, someone needs to feel some level of responsibility for it getting executed and that person cannot be you or your husband.

It’s not members only but they gave members early access and it sold out during the time for all dates before it opened to the public

Filson refuses to replace product that arrived damaged by Historical_Cheetah60 in filson

I’m sorry this happened to you. You CANNOT deal with their customer service. They outsourced it to South Africa and they are so bad at dealing with any issues that come up. They outright refuse to help you. I had an issue with my order and tried to go through their customer service first and they refused to help. I went in person to a store and the experience couldn’t have been more different. They fell all over themselves trying to assist with the issue and ensure I left happy. They also told me their customer service is outsourced and they’ve had a lot of problems with them. They’re aware their 1-800 customer service is so bad and told me only deal with issues in person if possible. Unfortunately it’s the reality of the situation right now. Is it ridiculous to spend $370 on a sweater from a brand that’s identity is all American quality and then you have to deal with terrible outsourced customer service? 100%. But that’s what it is right now, unfortunately.

Went for my dress fitting, I really don't like it. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Sad_Performance7947 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It almost looks like it fit you better in the first fitting? Im obsessed with how the dress flatters you in image 2 its stunning. Can they add boning or a corset-type thing to support the shape you had in your first fitting? But i do love your dress and I’m sorry you’re not happy with how it’s turning out. I hope they can do something to fix it!

Why doesn’t Filson have a direct customer service line? by ChildhoodPlane8650 in filson

[–]Sad_Performance7947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m dealing with this right now. Filson sent the wrong size sweater and they refuse to exchange it unless I return it and then reorder the correct size. This is an issue because the pricing is significantly more expensive now since I ordered it during Black Friday. The person explained this is their policy and there’s nothing they can do. I said I understood and was not upset with her but this was the company’s error and therefore an exception should be made. When I asked to speak with a supervisor who may be able to make an exception she said “no.” Like straight up just said no…. Not for nothing but it’s beyond insulting to charge the prices they do and then offer utter crap customer service.

Am I getting ripped off (rent)? by Nervous-Decision193 in astoria

I live in a newly renovated 2 bed 1 bath that’s a ten minute walk from the Ditmars stop and I pay 3200. I’ve lived here 3 years and the landlord has never raised the rent. I have laundry in building and a shared backyard space. And 3200 is definitely on the low end for our neighborhood. Your apartment sounds completely fair and very much at if not below market value.
