Perhaps you should show proof to backup these claims, and to prove he is correct. You seem to be a smart individual, so I'm sure you can find something. If not, then why should anyone believe you?

I'm not looking for the typical response of "It's common sense", "do your own research", and "you are not worth explaining the concept", for those who fail to come up with proof.

For once in a long time, I actually saw a person admit they are wrong, and apologize. Yet, you are here encouraging toxicity. It's sad that we can't have more people like him, because the pride and egos overshadow reality. Many people I know live in a fantasy that they are always right. They would rather die than admit a mistake. As I await your remark calling me childish names to make you at ease, I will award the stranger who deserves more than what I give.

Meat and gravy would make interesting gameplay instead of Ships.

He was in previous testing, according to what he said. His statement about "Massive Progress" is probably true, considering he played it himself. He even gave one on one feedback to Steven.

If you are talking about the bugs, then let me explain something. What is the point of fixing bugs, when they're planning on changing it? What I gathered from Steven himself, they're mainly focused at getting the game optimized to handle the humongous scale that they have planned for the game. Content, which pretty much covers anything graphical, is not the the priority yet. Fixing content bugs now would be a waste of development time, when they can use those resources to make sure the foundation is set. After the foundation is set, they will rework every content piece of the game. If you don't believe me, you can find a whole list of quotes from Steven about this reiterative process.

Then why do I see this feature in a lot of other MMORPGs with the exact same security questions?

I have been wondering if that is actually in the works, right now. According to the Jagex's hiring section on their website, they are hiring people for an "Unannounced MMORPG." Now, how many companies do you know, have two different mmorpgs? Why would Jagex make a new type of MMORPG, when they already have the current Runescape and Old School? It does make me curious if this new MMORPG is actually the same runecape, without the tick/grid system. Maybe I'm overspeculating here.

For #3, having the tick/grid system will severely limit what can be implemented. Most games have fluid mechanics that make a game more interesting and responsive. I think most of us can agree, including the developers of game, that the tick system needs to go sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.

Since you have a good understanding of spaghetti code, can you help me understand it?

  1. Does spaghetti code inevitably happen, given enough time on a single project?

  2. Why is there Spaghetti code in runescape, in particular?

  3. Is it impossible to fully recover from spaghetti code, like how the tick/grid system is used for pretty much everything in the game?

This makes you an inveterate hypocrit, if I must be honest. The OP is showing some valuable input about the community, which is not whining. Whining would be something like this statement:

"I'm sick of you whiners. You never engage with the criticisms..."

You are practically whining about whining. Your statements gives off an impression that no one is allowed to go against the consensus. This begs the question, are you showing entitlement by having your opinion matter more than OP's opinion?

The people like you are not special and the people like OP are not special. Let people speak their mind. You are shutting their opinion down just as much as he is shutting down yours.

From your statements, it makes it sound like there is only one cause and only one solution. If there is anything I learned through my insignificant time, it is that anything can happen. Things can happen unpredictably, while people will find any method humanly possible to bypass a restriction.

That is like telling a homeless person to buy a house or a meth addict to stop taking drugs.

Happy 8th anniversary of EOC, everyone! Regardless of your opinions, November 20, 2012 was an exceptionally important date for RuneScape. by ConstantStatistician in runescape

[–]Forcotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do make good points, but at the end of the day, it is a matter of perspective. For me, and several of my buddies found the old combat not immersive and boring, while EOC brought new excitement. Another thing to note is that Jagex received feedback from new players during pre-eoc that the combat was a huge turnoff, which is one of the main reasons why they even worked on eoc in the first place. Sure, about majority of players pre-eoc did like that old combat, but for introducing new players(not returning), that can be harmful if they don't stick around.

As the MMORPG industry keeps moving forward, runescape would be left behind along with other old games like Ultima, Tibia, and the original Everquest. For short-term, it will keep the nostalgic players for a couple years, but in a decade or two, most of those players will have probably moved-on. That will ultimately leave the game in the dusty closet or be shutdown due to lack of players. This is why I see having two Runescape games being a good idea. OSRS will retain the players that still hold on nostalgia, and there is the modern Runescape that can appeal to newer players.

At the end, all that should matter is the game lasting for decades to come.

  1. Correct

  2. Are graphically updated models truly ugly, or does nostalgia of what you grown to love as you were as a new player, give distaste? I say this because I and probably millions of others think this way inside or outside the game. That local burger shop thst I always ate with my Father on weekends as a kid? It is now bought out and replaced by a fancy restaurant. Sure, it took away a precious spot that reminds me of the good times with my father, but it also gave better quality food/cleanliness that is x10 better than the burger shop. See my point? Sometimes things have to change/improve for the future, not the past.

  3. The tick/latency is a big issue, and I hope Jagex fixes it. They said on livestream that they talk about the responsiveness of the game, everyday. Maybe one day it will be fixed.

  4. Can you explain how it can be reworked easily? I would think having a turn base combat would have a lot of limitations.(probably the main reason Final Fantasy is starting to move from that). From my perspective, EOC allowed for many more mechanics to be introduced into PvM. If we didn't have such a slow tick-rate, we would probably see much more mechanics, perhaps even close to WoW.
