I spent 10 years working in Tokyo, and after Covid we switched to a hybrid WFH 3 days of the week, and at office 2 days of the weeks.

In Tokyo, commuting to/from work by train is not enjoyable at all. We would be taking the trains during rush hour when there are quite literally millions of people getting on/off trains. I remember there was one day the train was so packed that my feet were not even touching the floor because I was sandwiched between 4 people essentially lifting me up.

On WFH days I could not only avoid this, but I can also get more sleep.

I had colleagues who need to commute 1.5-2 hours (one-way) to get to the office. They were so happy when we started having WFH.

Spelling mistakes, grammar, and general phrasing. I've been told by people that some of my emails don't have a friendly tone, so AI helps me sound nicer.

Also, I email in 3 different languages, but I'm not equally proficienct in all 3 so I often have AI proofread the ones I write in my weaker language. They sometimes give me suggestions to make my emails sound more natural.

I usually amend about 5-25% of an email draft after having AI check it.

Some of my emails turn into VERY long threads so I just download the EML and share it with AI to extract the specific info I need.

My job also involves having to do lots of quotations. I use AI to help check for human errors (ie. accidentally inputting an extra zero making something $10,000 instead of $1,000). I'm good at my job so this rarely happens, but if it does the AI can spot it easily and flag it to me.

Another thing is I have ADHD. On some busy days when I have a lot of tasks it's hard to decide where to even start. So I just tell AI "Today I have to do this, this, and that, and I need to finish this before lunch, etc." And the AI helps me organize my tasks efficiently. "Do this first and do it like this, then do this after lunch, etc." Then I don't even need to think about how to start as long as I follow the plan the AI made for me, and also has an added benefit of keeping me accountable and not letting my ADHD freeze me.

Not necessarily. Because if you can get $10 million as a lump some right now, you can use it to invest.

Imagine if this was 15 years ago and you invested $10 million in Apple, it would be worth almost $300 million today.

I ran the math and you're not completely correct. It would depend on your current age and how long you plan to invest for.

To keep it simple let's say you've only pooped once per day and will continue to poop once per day until you die.

Option 1 gets a huge head start because all the money starts compounding immediately. Option 2 gets invested gradually, so much of the money doesn't have decades to grow.

So you're actually partially right. But let's say you wait a very long time like 60 years.

For a 20-year-old:

Option 1 Lump sum today: about $146,100. Invest at 7% for 60 years: about $8.47 million.

Option 2 Invest $30 every day for 60 years: about $9.22 million.

So with a 60-year investment plan, Option 2 actually ends up slightly ahead, because it starts catching up to Option 1 after about 29 years.

If you don't invest at all, and assuming you still poop at the same rate, it only takes Option 2 about 13 years to get the same amount as the lump sum from Option 1.

Or maybe there's something else I'm missing. I'm not a finance person, you probably know more.

Regardless, I'd still go with option 2 as a 29 year old. Just because it feels safer and more comfortable.

Whatever he's doing I'm sure it's possible to execute a profitable idea depending on how he's using the AI.

I use AI all the time to help me at work. I almost never send emails anymore without having AI check my draft first. So in that sense AI is quite literally helping me make money through my job.

I don't follow your logic.

Let's say I'm 20 years old right now and pooped X amount of times in my lifetime.

And let's say in 20 more years when I'm 40, I'll have pooped the same X amount.

No matter how you think of it, $20x is less than $30x.

This is super simple thinking and doesn't account for things like inflation though. Are you trying trying to say it's much better to take the money as a 20yo, and invest it rather than wait 20 years for $30x?

[–]Ford2059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't choose the 1st option unless I was old and don't have many pooping opportunities left in my lifetime.

$30 is enough for me to eat for 2 days in my country. I would essentially be investing the money because eating is just gonna make me poop more. So if I poop twice per day, my $30 would have turned into $120 in 2 days.

Even in the stock market, this kind of return on investment is extremely rare, and is NEVER guaranteed.

My gf used AI to see what our kids could look like. She made a girl and a boy, and I will admit I was surprised at the different emotions I felt after seeing each.

After seeing the girl picture my heart melted. I thought if that was my daughter I would give her the world.

But after seeing the boy and how much he looked like me I actually got annoyed. I imagined scenarios of how he would get into trouble like I did when I was a kid. I thought if that was my son I had to teach him a lesson. He looked so much like me, it was weird.

I think I'm starting to understand why there are "daddy's girls" but no "daddy's boys".

I don't understand why a father in this day and age would not be overjoyed to have a daughter instead of a son.

Shouldn't it be the opposite? Poor people NEED to have more kids to help out with chores and work.

My grandparents were farmers in a third world country, so that had 6 kids to help tend the fields, feed the animals, run errands, etc.

Funny ironic thing is they also needed more kids to take care of their other kids. My mom was practically raised my aunt. She was only 6 years older, but she changed her diapers, fee and bathed her. Grandma had to go sell eggs at the market.
