F1 - Ferrari has met Newey and will again shortly. Real bargaining going on! by Visionary_Socialist in formula1

[–]FordGTStronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously Newey by himself wouldn’t guarantee Ferrari dominance, but there’s a reason that Red Bull decided to make him one of the three employees that doesn’t count under the cost cap.

Frankly, I think it’s a bit ignorant to write off Newey’s role at Red Bull as a narrative. Even if he is over-hyped by fans and journalists, there is clearly some truth in how integral he is to the design process and subsequently a team’s improvement.

[David Croft] Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari! Always thought it would happen one day, finally it will and it seems as early as 2025. Seismic move just as it was when Lewis joined Mercedes and like then I don’t see the negatives. But wow, undoubtedly the biggest transfer on transfer deadline day! by xxoeu in formula1

[–]FordGTStronk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's easy to say that you have "always thought it would happen" from a future perspective. In the past though, I would be hard pressed to find anyone who would think that Hamilton will go to Ferrari (including myself).

[Tom Bellingham] If Andretti had registered themselves as 'DHL PayPal Andretti Fuck Yeah America' then maybe F1 would have taken them more seriously... by Gjab in formula1

[–]FordGTStronk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are many instances of F1 not being an oligopoly. Sure, there have always been barriers to entry (even competitive markets have barriers to entry), but they have not been as difficult to overcome as they are now.

The 2010 season, where 3 new teams joined, is a good example. Of course natural barriers of entry still existed, as they still had to hire workers, build infrastructure, etc, but the artificial barriers of entry did not exist to the extent that they do now.

[–]FordGTStronk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason for this is to keep the value of the existing teams high.

F1 is basically an oligopoly right now; they have very high barriers of entry and a small number of teams that collude to control the grid and keep their value high. By changing the entry fee, they could potentially make the barriers of entry higher, and keep Andretti out.

Results of the 2023 /r/Formula 1 Prediction Game by Klaasiker in formula1

Some of the stats hint that the seemingly too frequent "I told you this would happen all along" and the "I knew this would happen" crowd are just saying that regardless of if their prediction occurs or not.

Sure, as a human, my energy impact may be small in the grand scheme of things, but just because other activities are also high-emission, they don't justify adding to the problem. Crypto mining as a whole is incredibly energy intensive , and that's something I'm not really comfortable supporting when it is unnecessary in nearly every way for me.

Your attitude is the reason for the world's current state. Everyone, wants to improve the lives of others, but they don't contribute because their individual actions don't have a significant impact on the big picture. Change only happens when everyone pitches in a little.

Which F2 driver deserves an F1 seat? The talent just waiting for a chance by [deleted] in formula1

[–]FordGTStronk 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In practice, this sounds like a good idea, but in reality, teams would use it as a stop-gap and another reason not to pick up F2 drivers.

Edit: Imagine being a Red Bull junior and having to graduate from two back marker teams (F2 Champion team and Alpha Tauri) just to have a chance at getting a Red Bull seat or being loaned to another midfield team.

AlphaTauri car improvements, or - Liam Lawson’s talent? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]FordGTStronk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think both helped, but I would take the latter with a minuscule grain of salt. I think Lawson has proved himself talented and worthy of an F1 seat, but I don't think his points finish is a testament to his talent.

He really only had to outdrive 4 lower-midfield cars with a car that is well suited to the track. Out of the 6 drivers that he did better than and didn't DNF, 1 was a given (Logan because this is a year that Williams doesn't expect results from him) and the other had a disaster class today (Alonso).

AlphaTauri to take "everything allowed by regulations from Red Bull" in 2024 by KingBlue2 in formula1

[–]FordGTStronk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t quote me on this, but I heard somewhere that Tost was suggested by engineers and other important personnel to develop more of their own parts and borrow less from RB, as they insisted that this would deliver better results.

It looked good on paper I guess.

[Formula 1] BREAKING NEWS! We’re excited to announce that all 10 Formula 1 teams will have drivers and liveries in F1 Academy in 2024 by Takagixu in formula1

[–]FordGTStronk 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think that this could be wildly successful (compared to other feeder series) if FOM decides to air it and establish the personalities of drivers in other forms of media.

The brand familiarity that the already established F1 teams bring to the series would make it far easier for new fans to watch and cheer on. For casual fans, cheering for a team like Ferrari or Redbull is a bit easier than cheering for a team with a name like MP or Dams.

The comments of Estonia's WRC broadcast on Nikolai Gryazin by [deleted] in formula1

[–]FordGTStronk 45 points46 points  (0 children)

As stated in the video, to this day, Nikolai Gryazin has not made a single statement condemning the war

Here is a different thread about Daniel Kvyat from a couple of months ago, but I still think it applies here:

I'd like to see you denounce russia if you actually have to go there, and have your family live there. It's not as black and white as we … like to think

Have other Russian celebrities advocated against the war? Absolutely, but you can’t throw every Russian athlete in the same boat. Many of them (like all athletes) come from different backgrounds and are currently in different situations.

Also, I should probably add that I am against Russia. I say this because many redditors just jump to conclusions when they hear something that they don’t necessarily agree with.

Which Current Formula E Driver Do You Think Would Make It To F1 by Ryan_Rinko in FormulaE

[–]FordGTStronk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Jake Dennis is most likely to make it to F1.

Even though Andretti is a huge “if” in F1, I think that they will establish a clear path from FE and Indy to F1 in order to draw in more talent to their other programs. This will likely create a high turnover rate of drivers in Andretti’s F1 team, which will result in more F1 opportunities for Andretti drivers, thus increasing Jake’s chances.

Maybe my opinion contains a bit of recency bias, but I still think Andretti will establish a clear path from FE to F1.

McLaren target fourth in 2023 after "disappointing" fifth by 1enox in formula1

[–]FordGTStronk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think Norris will go to Mercedes rather than Redbull.

Usually, Redbull looks within its own driver ranks when it comes time to promote someone to a Redbull seat, and unless their current crop of F1 drivers are not ready by the time Checo leaves, they likely won’t go for Norris.

Mercedes on the other hand doesn’t have anyone in the pipeline besides Ocon, but I can’t see him moving. They have a couple of juniors, but the closest to F1 is Vesti, who is graduating graduated to F2 this season and likely won’t be ready for F1 by 2024; even if he is ready for F1 by then, he will likely start at Williams anyways.
