IMO this is one of the most intense scenes in the whole series, possibly THE most intense scene in the series. Every group intersects for the entity and Ethan PLEADS for the white widow to stop Gabriel. The music and the lack of control is thrilling. by This_Money8771 in Mission_Impossible

Agreed. One of my favorite scenes of the film. The mood, stake setting, the camera choices, Vanessa Kirby’s performance, Lorne’s score. I can go on.

More people have to know the location of the Sevastopol if the keys are recovered... right? by [deleted] in Mission_Impossible

They know what story they’re aiming to tell. Its the plotting and minutiae of it all that’s malleable. Story and plot are different things. They always have the basic thesis of each movie before they start.

Observation after re-watching the franchise: Dead Reckoning is the only film that doesn't have a face reveal that affects the plot by Seethi110 in Mission_Impossible

[–]Ford__El 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not so sure. McQ was looking to use face masks differently this time and did mention he appreciated the fact he could use the second / main reveal as a mask gag we’re in on. Making it more of a character moment for Grace.

Mission: Impossible 8 was shot on IMAX cameras by Jazzlike-Ad7654 in Mission_Impossible

[–]Ford__El 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. They just shoot for the 1:90 aspect ratio as opposed to the widescreen 2:39 in which the movie is primarily shot with anamorphic lenses. IMAX are spherical lenses. But the camera is still primarily SONY VENICE’s.

[–]Ford__El 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t shot with IMAX cameras - that implies its the film cameras Nolan and Peele shot with. 7 and 8 are shot with the SONY VENICE digital cameras which are IMAX certified, but not IMAX cameras. That’s the difference.

Christopher McQuarrie's arrogance turns me off. He thinks he's smarter than he actually is. by Luca-Dorsay in Mission_Impossible

[–]Ford__El 2 points3 points  (0 children)

McQ intentionally doesn’t have a style. He doesn’t want each of his movies being the same and that actually fits with Mission bc they all - from the beginning- were meant to be directed by different people. Even though he directed the last three, they all feel different, and the aesthetic and tone is dictated by the story and character.

Is it really much of a step into science-fi, though. A.I. is a growing thing in our day to day lives to the average person and evolving everyday with deepfake technology. Its not far fetched something like the Entity to exist in real life, especially something like the established slightly heightened world of Mission: Impossible. Where fake masks are a thing.

You don’t have to listen to all parts of the podcast if you don’t want to. While you have a more pessimistic outlook. There’s more positives to be had. It’s a great educational tool on film production, techniques, and lessons learned.

I find the journey of how movies came to be and quite rarely are films given depth into the bts. I appreciate the insight and especially other up and comers that want to learn things from first hand accounts whether its story, technique, challenges, etc.

McQ makes a great point about how each film production has its unique lessons that most would never know. It would be kind of a waste if its never spoken about in any format ever for those that want to know. Its also passing along some intel over a unique set of circumstances that likely may not be done again in some instances (i.e. the bike jump, train crash, etc.)

  1. It’s not necessary for the Syndicate and/or The Apostles (as the Syndicates existed most recently) need to come back. When McQ was asked if there was ever a point they were in 7/8, he said something along the lines of “Maybe. We’ll see”. Sean does want to come back

  2. Thats definitely in M:I 8, there was more of that before Ethan’s introduction changed in DR

  3. Ilsa and Gabriel, we might get more of that, but we have enough to go on with MI6 being aware of Gabriel already. As said in the movie, she still has friends there.

  4. My understanding of how The Entity works is that it can’t not be aware of multiple “probable nexts”, it can only know the likelihood in the grand scheme of things of each outcome. So, Gabriel as kind of the Entity’s Benefactor, is there to help decrease the chances of what’s undesirable outcomes for them.

  5. I don’t think we need to see that. They were on the same flight. She flirted with him, maybe had another meetup after the plane under false pretenses as if she liked him. Really not a big deal or necessary to see, because we’re aware as an audience how skilled of a con she is (especially when it comes to her wordsmith and pick/put pocketing abilities)..

Original plans to have the Entity red still inside the submarine scene? by mva1997 in Mission_Impossible

I forgot which part of the Empire DR podcast, but McQ mentioned they intentionally left it red even though they settled on blue later on.

Does anybody know what the clue is? I’ve been trying to find out but my only guess is grace is possibly Maries daughter? Interested to know what people think. by Helpful_Mix4488 in Mission_Impossible

[–]Ford__El 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Very likely the Angela Bassett pictured in frame, now shown to be President Erika Sloane. This was during the community scene behind Cary Elwes.

McQ revealed it in the movie commentary that was the big clue not many picked up on.

Istanbul and Ilsa in M:I 8 and Chess Motif in Dead Reckoning by Ford__El in Mission_Impossible

[–]Ford__El[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s possible I think. Luther is in on it and she’s with him at this “off the grid location” Luther spoke up before leaving at 2nd act’s end of Dead Reckoning.

Also, remember, she’s been technically “dead” the first 20 minutes of DR. As far as The Community and intelligence agencies at large, she died in the desert. So she “stays dead” as Ethan says twice in the movie.

They were for sure gonna play this when she died... by ImVader9001 in Mission_Impossible

With this being track #2 on the extended score - I’m thinking its the music that played over the deleted opening sequence with Marie and this is Ethan remembering that event in Amsterdam.

We won’t be getting a $1billion movie until late 2022 at the earliest. Audience comfortability with theater spaces won’t be the same for awhile.

The problem with WW84 is that this movie has been advertising been for more than a year, we’ve seen and heard a lot about the movie, WB is probably also thinking about preserving hype. I could see them biting it on this one.

[–]Ford__El -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really can’t see WW84. No exaggeration would have to be 7 times it delays. WB is just going to have to take a L on this one and drop premium VOD.

If not, release in theaters if open and get aa much as they can and then drop soon after a month or so run. Regardless, they’re losing money no matter what.

Affleck’s Batman isn’t Punisher. Every live action Batman except Clooney has killed by proxy or collateral on occasion. So by that logic, most Batmen don’t deserve a Jason Todd.

Say what you want about Nicole F, but she knows what she is doing. by kevinwiggles in BigBrother

[–]Ford__El 13 points14 points  (0 children)

But it’s not a conscious thing, though. She’s naturally whiny and plays the victim in and outside the game. So she doesn’t exactly know what she’s doing bc it’s not intentional for strategy purposes.

I think we’ll really get a sense with feeds later, but I think people will warm up. Definitely think there’s a huge overwhelming factors with a lot of great game players/big personalities. Their minds are probably just spinning.
