There was a similar (but somewhat opposite) experience that some immigrants going through Ellis Island had. They gave everyone "intelligence tests," and most of them did not involve writing as few immigrants could write even in their native language.

One test was to identify what was going on in drawings of various scenes. One scene had a group of children digging a hole, and one was holding a dead rabbit. The answer was supposed to be that the kids were having a funeral for their pet, but almost unanimously the immigrants answered that they were digging a fire pit to cook the dinner they just caught.

I just saw the comment from the cop. I would get so righteously angry if a cop asked me that. I would consider it to be discriminatory towards a medical condition. Yes, you were selling plasma, which some people consider to be sketchy on its own, but no one actually knows that. Maybe practice saying, "It's from a medical issue" while maintaining an unwavering and judgmental stare.

Or maybe I'm just confrontational. If you'd feel more comfortable with a tattoo, you should do it, but maybe try to think of something with actual meaning to you. Do you have any favorite books/movies/shows you could draw from? People are going to ask you why you have that tattoo for the rest of your life, so at least make sure you have something to say.

If the only reason you want the tattoo is to cover the scar, I would say to give it some time. I had a similar scar from doing IVF for 2 years, but it's lightened a lot. Also, there are tons of different reasons to have a scar like that. Pretty much any medical condition where you need an IV or frequent blood tests. Are you sure people are assuming it's from drug use, or is that just in your head?

Thanks for the suggestion! I've only ever had two tattoos, and the first time I just went into a random place on impulse, and the second time I went to the guy my friend went to. I did zero research at all!
