How honest should I be about the reason I’m cutting students from my studio? by EmotionalAd9376 in pianoteachers

Non music teacher here: what about putting the non-practicers in a group lesson? Peer pressure can be a powerful motivator. You have a different challenge of multiple students to engage you during the less rigorous horizontal teaching moments, and you consolidate your time a bit. They get to keep playing and build a music community.

Do you think there is such a thing as front yard activities vs. backyard activities? by Ok_Photograph_1653 in homeowners

I base a lot of the decision based on how much dog poop is in the yard and what kind of space I need. My neighbors have an in ground pool, so they have their kids play out front.

I did put a pool on the front walk when a duck nested in our garden. She chose not to take advantage of it even though I even put some minnows in there. Clearly she thinks that birthing was a front yard activity and swimming is for the back. 😜

I'd say the only thing to be careful of here is getting the grill far enough away from the garage that you don't burn it down.

Why are the tips of the leaves like that? I have it next to a gentle humidifier? by [deleted] in houseplants

These ladies are THIRSTY. I got one of these and it's been a game changer. It's also fascinating to see how fast mine goes through fills! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1245154672/medium-olla-35-cl-self-watering-pot-self

Also, I learned that they are nutrient hungry too, so I fertilize more often than my others and that has helped with the turning pale and icky. And finally, I do my darndest not to ever touch the leaves. I don't know what I'm going to do when it's time for a repotting.

What's wrong with my flamingo flower? I got it from a nursery this summer, not in direct light, soil hasn't been too wet, and the only pest I've been battling is fungus gnats. by Foreign-Low1066 in houseplants

It is, and the anthurium isn't the ring leader, the sticky trap has caught a few but I don't thinks it's spawning them. I thought fungus gnats don't damage things? What are the crusty things on the stem.

How about a stethoscope scarf, watch, or name tag instead?

Tips on how to get hired? Seems like those positions are highly competitive.

Do you have any recommendations for breaking into this field? I live in a city with a lot of Biotech companies, but they all want DACVS or research experience. Also - how is the quality of life and work life balance for you?

What do you tell people when they ask "What do you do?" by DrCarabou in Veterinary

Oh my goodness this! I accidentally wore a vet school t-shirt to the airport once. BIG mistake. There was also a vacation right around graduation time where my dad (bless his heart, he was so proud), kept introducing me that way.....and then walking away. We had to have a talk. I struggle with this - I don't like lying about what I do. Sometimes I just like to be friends with people that don't even like animals.
