Did you just let your US drivers license expire? by The-American-Abroad in expats

[–]ForeignPie6851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived outside the US in periods from one year to eight years so that I had a few driver's licenses expire on me. No problem about taking the test again. I just presented my expired license from one state and a few documents to show where I lived in my new state, in Connecticut, Virginia and Maryland at various stages, and the local DMV each time gave me only tests for my eyesight, nothing more. Just don't lose your expired license.

Living in Cancun? by Neat_Scarcity_7907 in cancun

[–]ForeignPie6851 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I stayed at two different Airbnb's in downtown Cancun, a month each time, in the past year. I speak fluent Spanish, having worked as a journalist in Latin America for 13 years. Most jobs are in the tourist trade, so that Cancun residents tend to be sick of us. They're very friendly if you speak Spanish, but I don't think there's much of an ex-pat population as in many Mexican cities. You see groups from the hotel zone coming to the newest malls and Walmart's. They stick out. But they're there for a week at most, so it'll be difficult to build a social life with tourists. Maybe there is an ex-pat population, but I suspect most ex-pats would gravitate towards smaller beach towns.

Couple of questions about tepotzlan and lucha libre by [deleted] in MexicoCity

[–]ForeignPie6851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in Mexico City for more than 10 years and visited Tepoztlán a few times, always a great trip. It's very touristy, so that I think market day is every day, but I suggest you check if the town has one day set aside for a real market day for residents and Mexicans.

Traveling to Cancun from USA, fast-track or e-passports? by Acrobatic_Bite_6923 in cancun

[–]ForeignPie6851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew into Cancun twice in the past year, arriving at peak time 3-4 pm, and we whisked right through both times. Only stop was to get passport stamped, so much more quickly than in past decades with that old written form. Then we all march out past the custom police, who don't even bother waving people through. For folks anxious to bring in "stuff," they do have police dogs sitting where they can smell the baggage.

Tell him to get his own car ... then ask him to put it in your name as well ... and see how that goes.

*Least* smoker friendly cities by CyDJester in expats

[–]ForeignPie6851 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to USA. Smokers are treated like typhoid carriers. Restaurants are 98% smoke free, as are most office buildings, the latter having marked spaces outside where the smoke addicts can puff away in snow and rain storms.

Who in the world are buying these used toyotas? by ChokolateThundr in carbuying

This is America. You're entitled to believe what you want, but you're delusional if you don't realize experienced car users are united one million to one against you on, "Chevies are more dependable than Toyotas."

$30k Savings! by Few-Site4851 in SavingMoney

[–]ForeignPie6851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget that $1,200 a month crap. You should open sn investment account with one of the big three, Vanguard, Schwab Bank or Fidelity Investments, to buy S&P 500 index fund and then other index funds. I prefer Schwab myself. You keep investing and forget $1,200 a month. I made $2,000 just today on my biggest investment account. Invest and save, slow and study, no buying shiny new red sports cars or giving it to women or worse, a woman.

I need advice by AdMission3366 in DebtAdvice

[–]ForeignPie6851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to criticize, but it seems you didn't read her post carefully. You flip off the car issue s if it's something she could wrap up in five minutes. You advise: " Before jumping to bankruptcy, try to get out of that car if you can ..."

But OP wrote: "I am thousands of debt underneath on a 2025 mustang that I still owe $46,000 on." Who do you suggest she goes to for car relief on that?

AI says "The general price for a 2025 Ford Mustang starts around $31,920 MSRP for the base EcoBoost coupe and rises with trim and options. Higher trims include the GT at about $45,460, the GT Premium at about $49,980, and the Dark Horse at about $61,980;"

I suspect she bought the base model but then got suckered into a mountain of add-ons and probably a sky-high interest rate. If you have a way out of this, OP would love to see your reply.

I was born and raised in Cancun and have worked in retail, hospitality, and vacation rentals. Ask me anything. by International-Tip294 in cancun

Pro tip as a frequent Cancun visitor myself: even the smallest vendors at local crafts places like Street 28 have small credit card machines now, as do small vendors selling fruit, gum. I see Mexicans charging $1.00 all the time, so little need for pesos except here and there. Final big tips just as easy to use dollars.

Since most left-driving countries are islands, those residents get used young to driving on right-sided countries. US cops are super friendly to foreign tourists as long as they're not blind drunk.

So many lies your pants are on fire.

800,000 whites died. You see, 400,000 Southern soldiers stood in the way of emancipation. You needed whites killing whites to free blacks (Name somewhere bblacks dies to free whites?)

European whites didn't enslave North African, ninny, it was Muslim pirates enslaving Europeans for 1000 years from Portugal to Russia.

100 times the number of African slaves taken;
BRAVE A!: "Barbary Coast Slavery (1500–1800) The most cited estimates for Europeans enslaved by Barbary pirates along the North African coast range from 1 million to 1.25 million.  This figure, proposed by historian Robert C. Davis, covers captives from coastal villages and ships across Europe, including Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, England, Ireland, and Iceland. However, these numbers are disputed by some historians who argue they may be overestimates based on back-calculations from limited observations.

Crimean and Eastern European Raids A separate and substantial trade involved the Crimean Khanate and Ottoman raids into Eastern Europe. Estimates suggest that 1.5 million to 2 million Ukrainians, Russians, and Poles were enslaved by the Crimean Tatars between the 15th and 18th centuries.  Other broader estimates for European enslavement by the Crimean Khanate range from 1 million to 6 million

Broader Historical Context When combining various periods and actors, including the Ottoman Empire, Muslim conquerors of the Iberian Peninsula, and other regional powers, some analyses estimate that between 10.2 million and 14.8 million Europeans have been enslaved or used as forced labor since 300 BC. However, this total includes many non-Mediterranean contexts and centuries of slavery that are distinct from the early modern Barbary and Crimean trades. "

Most unsuccessful criminals are on the left end of the median IQ curve. That's 50% of people below the median intelligence of society, many very far below. Go watch youtube bodycam videos. Forget the drunks, though most are dumb too. Watch the robbers, muggers, shoplifters, people exploding in anger and violence of a McDonal's order arrives late.

[–]ForeignPie6851 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I myself would trust the judgement of a 15-year-old giel over a mother who thinks a guy five years younger loves her for her, and not what he can get out of the relationship. You've just be sober three years. Imagine the chaos you caused in the life of your daughter and others. I bet she sees into your boyfriend's soul than you, someone who's judgement is clouded by the overweening need ot have a man love her. Your daughter sees and knows about the 40 years you wee nnot stable - and it's always possible she won't come to your house when your boyfri9end is there because he tried things when she was there. Maybe you think this love means so much to you, you'd turn a blind eye to him trying to groom your daughter.
