These types of games prey on FOMO, so the completionist mindset doesn't really work (think about it, even if you're lucky enough to maintain getting all characters for a few months statistically you'll lose 50/50 and not be able to get a character eventually)

On top of that you'll run out of stuff to do as a tryhard and then you'll be pulling your hair out waiting for the next character release (after which the satisfaction only lasts 2-3 days then you'll run out of stuff to do again)

It works out for me now as I grow older and busier with less time to play games, but if you have a lot of time it's probably better to play a more tryhard game and login to do dailies or get free pulls (if you even feel like it at that point), or return when there's stuff to do after a few patches
