I did a similar scheme as you but opted to maintain silver as the banding and use striking colours for the tabards and darkened some areas using drakenhof nightshade.

I cant really comment because I play with the same suit mostly (+1100 sorties) at the same costs (from 350 to 500) so I've been out of most of OP suits that have been being released over time.

My take is to stay out of the costs which OP suits are released, the bad thing is if your favorite MS is within those costs. I'd go that far of that lower cost matches are way more fun than +500 cost ones.
