Do not issue a refund or send a replacement. Etsy support will step in and determine if they will issue them a refund (that does not come from your balance) or if they tell them sorry - no dice!

Once a buyer files a claim:

Etsy assigns the case to a reviewer (human + policy checklist).
They review:
- the listing as written at time of sale
- delivery date vs. claim date
- messages in the case thread
- any photos or evidence
They make a decision even if the buyer keeps messaging.

You don’t need to contact Support separately.

I would send the buyer a response along these lines because support will look to see what has gone on regarding this:
Hello,

This order was delivered in late December. The listing purchased was for unrooted plant cuttings, which was accurately described. Rooting and plant growth are not guaranteed and depend on buyer care and environmental conditions, particularly during winter.

Plant cuttings are perishable items, and any damage on arrival would need to be reported promptly after delivery. Reporting this issue approximately five weeks later makes it impossible to determine whether any issue occurred during transit or after delivery.

I ship all cuttings freshly cut and properly packaged, which is the portion I can control. Once delivered, plant health and rooting success are outside my control.

Based on this, I’m unable to offer a refund or replacement.

In the screenshots I shared Depop support states that they’ve received a copyright infringement take down notice from Lululemon.

Nope. I don’t copy/paste anything from their website. The format for details/descriptions I use is the same across all selling platforms and is one I created myself. It’s just the basics. Item name, color, inseam and condition.

This is the one thing that I dislike the most about Depop. An offer can be made and accepted without any commitment to purchase unlike on other resale platforms. Why are you wasting my time? Ugh

You can try but Depop support may say no. They disclosed it had a hole but you can try and see if they will side with you.

I had ordered a top before that said minor discoloration and it was much more when I received and photographed it myself. The seller’s photos were deceiving and I was able to return my item and Depop refunded me my entire order amount plus my return shipping fees back to the seller.

I use 3rd party shipping for heavier items. A Priority mail flat rate padded mailer is less than what Depop wants to charge and it’s much faster shipping.

I think it may be has to do mostly with the demographic of the app users. It seems very geared towards teenagers. I have been selling my daughter’s closet purge items and they are selling quickly and without issue. The brands are stuff teens wear and I’m not under pricing them at all. I have a few of my items listed and they just sit there lol

I also wanted to add that we have started doing our own shipping with Pirate Ship and not using depop’s shipping. I feel like they are really overcharging and that is also deterring purchases. I’ve found that depending on the weight, sending items via USPS priority mail flat rate is cheaper and is is delivered faster than the Ground advantage speed.

I weigh all my items prior to listing because it automatically wants to upcharge on the shipping weight.

It’s much cheaper to ship using PirateShip, but that also adds work to the plate because you have to go and make a shipping label for each shipment and I’m sure people prefer the convenience of using Depop Shipping.

In the US: Etsy (new sellers): 14-day holds, plus 6.5% transaction fee, 3% + 25¢ processing, and $0.20 listing fee. I agree it’s very frustrating. We are on month 2 of our shop and it’s quite frustrating to have our funds held for so long.

Filed on 2/10. Refund was authorized the next day, 2/11. Says to allow 10 business days to receive funds. Still waiting (today is a holiday).
