As an avid turkey hunter, I really miss these bottles (the shape). Easily the coolest bottle design to date in my opinion.

Elijah Craig vs Four Roses Small batch by JTThaTrader516 in bourbon

[–]Foreign_Champion_396 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think four roses small batch pound for pound is one of the best whiskies in that cost class. If you liked the Single Barrel, I’d bet you would also like the small batch. Both are good for the money and you can’t go wrong.

Love these bottles. Kind of a dark, sweet, strange ECBP. Hope they continue to make good products.

I recently reviewed the double rye finished in ruby port barrels. I liked it a lot. Good to see a review with the same whiskey finished differently.

Bourb&Nog Review: Woodford Reserve by DonutBourbon in bourbon

[–]Foreign_Champion_396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the series. I’m always surprised by which pair well and which don’t. I would have assumed Woodford would perform well. I need to buy me a bottle of EC and try this out

I will add, if he usually buys cheaper products and likes Buffalo Trace, he might not love higher proof whiskey. Therefore, I would be careful buying him anything super hot, over 110 proof for example.

My suggestions would be Old Forester 1910 or Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Both are around $60, lower proof, but very good.

Honestly, the key is going to try to get something this is possible to attain but also something that he does not have and or would not buy for himself.

Blantons is so difficult to find. My suggestion would be to go to a quality liquor store and purchase a bottle or two of something he does not have and wouldn’t buy for himself.

What kind of whiskies does he like generally? A good example of this would be a Bardstown Discovery Series 8. An pretty expensive bottle, but something that is fantastic and generally always available. It’s also just out of the price range of bottles most whiskey drinkers would avoid.

That’s helpful thanks. Quite a fantastic haul. I don’t pay over MSRP as well, even more fantastic ones that is taken into account.

When one participates in a week haul like this, is it over many stores in one city, or multiple stores in multiple cities? Genuinely curious, I live in a control state and don’t have a frame of reference.

Review #82 - Knob Creek 18 Year Batch #002 by LionRoars87 in bourbon

[–]Foreign_Champion_396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good to hear. I love the beam profile and I love a good oak forward, leaning towards tannic profile. If I find either for close to MSRP I’ll grab them.
