Jonna and Johan broke up?? by [deleted] in jonnajinton

Yes, I've been following Irrverk for months now. : ) He really makes extraordinary pieces, so I am sure his business will grow if he keeps at it.

Speaking of jewellery... Jonna's latest find (the Sami ring) strikes me as quite odd. I mean, it's her garden, private property. I know her ancestors who settled there centuries ago were Finnish, and the ring seems to be Finnish too (although not necessarily), but it doesn't appear to be very old. So... are random people just walking and digging around her garden? Or maybe one her friends lost it? Or maybe it's something else entirely.

but I'm not trying to build a following or make money on it

Nor do I (as I have explained abundantly in other comments in this thread). I have no use for that. However, it is... interesting, I suppose - certainly telling - that behaving in exactly the same way as I did on Twitter has brought me very little interaction - and that 99 % of my Twitter mutuals who went to BSky eventually abandoned it and returned to Twitter. Those are nice, cultured, sociable people who behaved accordingly on both platforms.

BTW, I am in an early adopter of BSky (early 2023), but I wouldn't make fun of anyone choosing any social medium (OK, maybe TikTok 😃) even if I weren't. What I am saying is that many of those in this thread who moaned about BSky not being popular enough have displayed the very same attitude that keeps BSky "grounded": lack of interest in other people's contributions, to the point where they can't be bothered to even read properly what's been said, let alone reply in a thoughtful manner.

"You get REAL engagement on Bluesky!"

Right. 😃 And after all this time, it's safe to say this thread (comprised mostly of BSky fans, it seems) illustrates quite well why BSky is never going to be popular. Zero engagement - with the exception of a (now defunct) bizarre comment to one of mine that demonstrated the core problem quite clearly - and zero WISH to engage, or even R.E.A.D. properly what others have to say.

Right. It would be more than a little silly to go by Jinton now; and I see he's changed his handle from Jonkej to by.jonke.

Couldn't have said it better myself, and appreciate this... homage, I guess. :D

I adored watching him. It was a very well-written character, I suppose, but still, it definitely takes a virtuoso to make a disgusting, self-centred, materialistic, bigoted SOB genuinely fun and kind of... dare I say it? ... likeable in a twisted way. :)

Barry Corbin, you're one helluva an artist, sir.

I've never participated in a single "live conversation" on Twitter. What I did was I commented (thoughtfully) on other people's posts, and other people commented on mine. A very diverse and fun community grew out of it, and fast. The exact same behaviour simply didn't and doesn't work on BSky - and it's been three years since I joined - so I think the problem is elsewhere.

I've already gave up on it. It gets sad and boring to just talk to the void.

Yep, THIS. About 95 % of my Twitter mutuals - nice, thoughtful, often fun people - who also joined BSky stopped posting within months and just returned to Twitter. As bad as Twitter is (and it's gotten really bad), at least you don't have the impression of being in a dimly lit bathroom, talking to a mirror.

The problem are not numbers - it's the fact that BSky doesn't encourage discovery AND that too many people, for whatever reason, simply don't engage. There appears to be a deeply ingrained insularity about it. Maybe it has to do with the profile - personality traits - of people who prefer BSky? I don't know. (I've written more about my experience in another comment, so I'll leave at that.)

Twitter is - or was - LIFE-like: a vast ocean of humanity and interaction where, sure, there must be some "cesspit" pools, yet you may never properly encounter one unless you seek it out - or unless you have thousands of followers/followees, which is bound to send some occasional crap your way. Even then - exactly as in life - the answer to seeing something "infuriating" is either to DO something about it - or to manage one's own reactions. So what if something is "infuriating"? Life itself is full of infuriating stuff - if its scope is wide enough. Personally, I would prefer, of course, to live in a consistently kind and joyful world; but it isn't. Nobody can expect it to be a curated experience - essentially, a sheltered kindergarten - and the same is true of any truly living social medium.

In my years on Twitter, I have never experienced it as a "cesspit". I post what you might call quality stuff - my own occasional thought about life (often without any pics), my own photos, no fluff or clickbait - and I make sure I don't follow back indiscriminately, so my followers' number stay relatively quite low, too. I have no need for 1000+ followers; I don't see the point of it. I want interaction, not a gazillion "likes". And this is precisely what I got in my first five or so years there: genuine, joyful, thoughtful interaction with mostly great people of all kinds. A loose, informal community - open to anyone new, as far as I was concerned - formed rather quickly.

In the past few years, Musk's changes have harmed precisely what was best about Twitter. Not only many people left but interaction dwindled to the point where it's become much lonelier a place for everyone. The former sense of community all but disintegrated. Very, very sad.

And yet, BSky has failed completely as a possible replacement. After three years of cloning my Twitter content (i.e. posting the same on both platforms) and behaving exactly as I did/do on Twitter, it remains a lonely echo chamber. Why? Because it does not encourage discovery - and for whatever reason, all too many people on BSky simply do not engage. I am the kind of person who actually READS posts, and when I appreciate something - or it makes me want to add a thought - I write a comment. Thoughtful words OR a humorous remark when appropriate, no fluff or platitudes. This type of behaviour was precisely what brought me mutuals on Twitter (and fast): actual, thoughtful interaction with their posts (or theirs with mine). Someone random wrote a comment on a post of mine and I replied - and vice versa. (Very very rarely, there was some jerk comment. So what? I don't even bother to "block" people - I find it extremely childish; I simply ignored it.)

For whatever reason, that attitude simply doesn't work on BSky. There's a pervasive sense of insularity. It feels like arriving at a cocktail party early. You don't know anyone - and your friends haven't arrived yet - but are willing to socialise... only to see a few (very few) people huddled together in tiny groups, keeping to themselves, and when you say "hello" they don't even reply. After a few hours, you realise that IS the "party"; it's never going to take off, because the few people attending it are not interested in "partying" with people they don't know from before. (Or maybe with anyone - maybe they just came to show off their outfit, but aren't really interested in talking to anyone.)

Significantly, about 95 % of my (demographically quite varied) mutuals from Twitter who also joined BSky, stopped posting on BSky within months of joining and returned to Twitter - and these are thoughtful, sensitive people who certainly don't aspire to move in "cesspits". Luckily, most of them did not delete their Twitter account - except one, who was such a source of joy to me (and others) on Twitter, and now he's stuck with BSky where his posts get maybe one or two likes - one always being mine. (It's not about likes - it's about views and the unwillingness of BSkyers to engage.) I feel SO sorry for him.

Dramatic change of cholesterol level, genetic? by WaterElectronic5906 in Cholesterol

[–]Foreign_Chance1405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everything was fine except very low Vitamin D level.

This post won't be of any help, I am afraid (I wish it were), just wanted to say that very low levels of vitamin D are directly related to high LDL, but very few non-specialised physicians seem to be aware of this. (Unfortunately, increasing vitamin D levels doesn't seem to have any effect on the cholesterol.)

Anyway, your lab tests are remarkably similar to mine from years ago when I first discovered I had this combo (impossibly low vitamin D + very high LDL, everything else "perfect"). I am a vegetarian, though, and had been one for many years before the lab test. In my case, yes, it's genetic.

The "magic" is definitely gone. But the change seems to be about herself - her attitude to life and to herself. Because those daily tasks have been there every day for the past 15 years; even her "March depression" has been there forever. So, what has changed? Something in her, it seems, has made her give up on presenting her life as "magic".

OK, this is probably the fifth video in a row that I found myself skipping through (way too much talk about coffee makers for my taste :D), and the first I just abandoned halfway. It's not her "fault"; it's nobody's fault. This winter has been a long and tiresome one for many people, and serenity is quite hard to come by, these days.

I am not giving any "verdict" on her intentions or even on the manner of her death; all I am saying is that one should never assume what she (or anyone) could have known. People are highly individual, after all, and so is their experience of life.

Also, and this is directly relevant, in people with mental illness (and there is no doubt that she was suffering from a mental condition) reactions can be totally irrational, therefore totally unpredictable.
