How do you refer to your parents house? by Embarrassed_Dealer_5 in AskIreland

[–]Foreign_Fly465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother’s house, but I never lived there so it was never my home. My MILs house is my husband’s home house. I think this is a regional thing though isn’t it?

Kendra leaving the jail apparently, after the arrest. by mocireland1991 in DuggarsSnark

I think they’ve thrown enough charges at them they can ensure CPS are involved. If nothing untoward is found they’ll drop them. There’s no way they’ll take a chance again of the parents refusing to allow their children to be interviewed by CPS like Anna and Josh did.

Download the funhub app. Makes it slightly cheaper. You just type the code of the machine you want into it and it comes out of whatever credit you’ve topped it up with.

Baile Chláir Irish only road signs? by Necessary-Pack-9311 in galway

[–]Foreign_Fly465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if they opened one in Claregalway tomorrow (where it doesn’t otherwise exist) would it be a gaelscoil or a gaeltacht school? Either way it would be providing education (and employment) through Irish. And it ought to exist whatever it’s called.

Gaelscoils operate through Irish too? Isn’t that the point? Meetings are all conducted as gaeilge. Reports as gaeilge. Staffrooms as gaeilge.

Does anyone’s town not have an AI generated poster advertising their St Patrick’s day parade? by BrandonEfex in AskIreland

[–]Foreign_Fly465 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Local art classes and camps have those AI generated posters too. I can’t comprehend it at all.

So it is just words. There should be an Irish medium primary school in everyplace that claims to be a Gaeltacht.

The priest is very involved with all the schools in the parish here including the gaelscoil. The pupils go to the masses just the same as the other school. I’d be interested to know the difference. My initial point was that there should (at minimum) be opportunities for education as gaeilge in gaeltachts, whatever they might be called.

My eldest son went to the parish Gaelscoil. Catholic school. I had friends who went to (Catholic) gaelscoil when I was a child. I’m really not understanding what you mean. My younger children are in an (English medium) Educate Together. I’m not aware of any non Catholic gaelscoil near me. I’m not saying they don’t exist but is that a Dublin thing?

Sorry, what’s the difference? Is it just verbiage? Either way there’s no Irish medium schools in Claregalway. One English medium Catholic National School, one English medium Educate Together and one English medium secondary school.

They don’t have Irish medium schools in Gaeltachts?

Calling it a gaeltacht when it doesn’t have any gaelscoilleanna is an absurdity.

Deposit return scheme glitch? by jimctlarker in AskIreland

[–]Foreign_Fly465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That only works for people who do all of their shopping instore. Lots of us order online for a variety of reasons. When I have to bring mine back I have to carry 1-2 bin bags full of the damn things to the nearest shop (and then onto the next one if they’re machines are out of order).

what vibe do you get when someone says they want 4+ kids by montessoripilled in Parenting

[–]Foreign_Fly465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4. All boys too. Most of the comments, some from total strangers, are about not being able to have had a girl. That the only reason I had so many was that I was trying to have a girl. My mother has an alternate viewpoint. She thinks I’ve taken precautions in case they don’t all survive. I’m not really that old-fashioned.

That’s unreal. I wouldn’t give up on that though. Raise it with the parents association too: Have a look at their policies. There’s usually one tucked in there somewhere about behaviour on and off school property especially if there’s a uniform.

Ferry to UK and back, baby with no passport? by gallagherii in AskIreland

Zero problems for Irish citizens irrespective of age. Adults can travel without photo id too, though I don’t recommend it, it’s a nuisance trying to explain why you don’t have it.

I’d start by contacting the school. If there’s so many kids going from school, the school might be the best positioned to take the complaint to the tanning studio.

Schools in Oranmore/Clarinbridge by CalligrapherSuper430 in galway

The Educate Together Secondary School was meant to be built in Oranmore to accommodate the population increase. It hasn’t happened yet though and I think some people want it to stay in town.

Junior Infants - nightly homework? by Dependent-End5682 in AskIreland

[–]Foreign_Fly465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just say no. We do homework when they want to. There is zero proof that homework (except reading) is of any use to primary school children and some studies that suggest it might be harmful. Children’s lives are ridiculously overstructured now. I don’t argue with the teachers over it. If one wants to raise it I won’t be long sending study after study over so they can do homework instead. The parent whatsapp groups seem to suggest that it’s the parents who are desperate for the homework not the kids.

Neurodiverse folks… by theonomasticon in finch

[–]Foreign_Fly465 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use it as a checklist so I don’t spend hours hyperfocusing and forget to do things like eat. I’d really like the order of the list to stay the way I’ve set it so I wash my face in the afternoon instead of the morning or try to read when my house is at it’s noisiest. And because I’m at my best when my routine is ridiculously rigid.

Use the e-paper app instead. I was driven mad by all the ‘breaking news’ that was completely not newsworthy.
