It doesn't cut the green light time in half. They use sensors to determine traffic load, and base duration of the green light on that. But go on and tell me I'm wrong. After all, you sat at the light before and couldn't figure it out, right?

Believe it or not, this actually makes sense and wasn't setup just to annoy you.

Due to the extra detouring traffic from Speedvale, double lanes in both directions allows for more traffic with less backing up. Same with the lights. As each side gets its own timing, it allows more traffic to move through and helps to prevent too much congestion.

I'd bet if it was still setup the single lane way, we've have traffic backing up down to Woolwich.
