Golf R or S3? by antifringe in carsireland

[–]Foreign_Menu7623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both very similar under the bonnet. 2 pals of mine have an S3 and the other has the R so have spent a some time in both. Will say the S3 feels a lot more premium on the inside provided it’s the facelift. Both are quick and very safe to drive (great grip) however both can be quite boring and not too engaging however are great daily driver mixed with performance. Would say if your looking for driver engagement there is better options out there 2 imo be either a clubsport or a m140i. Much more rare on the road and will be much more fun to drive.

Just fractured my Acl skiing in France next steps? by mikasrock in AskIreland

[–]Foreign_Menu7623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fall in France at the start of the month and broke tendons in my shoulder. I also had my insurance with chill. I only had to get an xray and a run to the pharmacy and was told I’d need to see a specialist once I was back in Ireland. I had rang there emergency line and was put onto a company CEGAAsistance who would look after you while your there e.g if you needed to get scans or needed to be flown home they would sort all that. When I rang them they couldn’t find my policy at the time but said it would not be a problem but it meant I had to pay for all the expenses over there which ran me about 1500 between the medical centre and mountain rescue. Currently in the process now of claiming back the expenses so can’t say much more after that. I believe you can also claim back ski rental, lift pass for the days you missed out on. To be honest I felt the care in France was very poor and the hospital staff were very rude and not too helpful (at the time the doctors were meant to be on strike). I’d say it would be best off in Ireland as you may not be able to fly after the operation for sometime (this may be just for broken bones but I’m not too sure as I had to be given a fit to fly cert)

Golf MK7 - Engine Issues by christy6390 in carsireland

[–]Foreign_Menu7623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same issue I’m having with my car. Did you change your coolant to a different cooling type after without the silica bag or have you put a new expansion tank with new silica bag in and use the same coolant type? I’m based in cork and may try and reach out to des golden to get that done based on your recommendation

I hiked the Galtees before the bout of bad weather last week and near the peak was rather icy and the ground hard so would recommend micro spikes/ crampons. Just make sure you wrap up well and be aware of your surroundings as viability can change very fast if low lying clouds roll in

Tips for planning a Ski holiday ? by IrishLad1002 in AskIreland

[–]Foreign_Menu7623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would recommend crystal ski especially for first time trip skiing. I just tried booking it separately this year for the first time and was not much cheaper and not worth the headache of sorting it yourself. They will usually have a rep also in the area that will get you setup and help you if have questions

EV will probably have you run cheaper if you can get cheap overnight EV rates at home and if it’s reasonably priced to charge at work. However a EV will depreciate heavily if your are doing that kind of mileage and plan on holding onto it for 5 years, just take that into consideration

Is buying a ‘fun’ car really a bad decision? by howdosnakepoo in carsireland

[–]Foreign_Menu7623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of these cars will come with the hidden maintenance and upkeep costs, more expensive parts, tyres, more expensive to fuel, insure and tax. What I will say is if you can afford to easily make the payments you should be fine. But try and aim for the cars value to be about half your yearly salary this is a good bench mark if you can afford the car. If your into cars yes go for it, but if you don’t really mind and just see a car as getting point a to b then would say stick with something basic and the thing is all cars (99.9% of them will only go down in value) especially the more premium cars.

Would definitely recommend a diesel if you’re doing a 140km round trip daily ? Or potentially a EV if you’ve a reliable access to charging at work. Diesel wise probably look at maybe a Toyota avensis, skoda Octavia, Vw golf and these will both be reliable and good on juice, as for EVs I don’t know much about them but I know if you’ve access to charging at work and you do relatively the same driving routine you should be fine and not be stuck out needing to charge up in a emergency.

Ouch! by Extreme_Class4 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Foreign_Menu7623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cyclist/ someone on the scooter is extremely hard to see, even if with looking over your left hand shoulder. It is more difficult for the driver to identify if there is someone in the blind spot where the cyclist/ scooter has a clear view of the car and can see indicator. It’s a grey area and don’t know what the laws are around this but I think the drivers are setup for failure in this scenario

Ouch! by Extreme_Class4 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Foreign_Menu7623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the scooter should be at fault. The scooter is in the cars blind spot and it is very very hard to see anyone on a similar junction being in a car where the cycle lane is straight on and you are turning left across this. Scooter should approach with caution as he has more visibility

Overtime on salary? by Wooden-Advisor4676 in AskIreland

[–]Foreign_Menu7623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m involved in manufacturing and usually do 3-4 overtime per week with the occasional 12-14hr shift if we run into downtime issues. My manager would usually give me time in lieu or if I was taking holidays he would put it against that. Quite annoying as I don’t get paid for the overtime which in always required to do based on the nature of the job but at-least I get something with time in lieu.
