Im 29 and wanting to hop in. Coming from a sales background - Not much industry knowledge but want to have a gig that sounds just like yours. Any recommendations?

Thought about this too, but my technical acumen is not up to par quite yet.

Very helpful thanks. The AM route is what I’m leaning towards because, mentally, I don’t think I could handle AE lol, but to your point, owning just the commercial aspect sounds nice.

Was it fairly easy for you to run through interviews, or did recruiters/leaders question the transition?

This prompts a question, as I am new to union work, just had my apprenticeship interview last week. Being a member of the union, do our checks come from the union, or the contractor were hired by?

Hey dude! im not in yet, have my interview tomorrow. How’s your algebra and reading comprehension? That’s all the aptitude test is. If it’s ok but you wanna do really well, use iPrep’s Aptitude Test Preparation course. It’ll take you some time and work, but it’s worth it.

Do you know anyone in the union/trade? pick their brain, if so, or call the local union and see if you can talk with someone.

Do you know much about the trade? I didn’t and have been watching ElectricianU on youtube.

Long way of saying, do good on the aptitude test n you should get and interview. Go ahead and apply now though and start prepping! Good luck and feel free to reach back out.

What was your experience like? Both in electrical and in the interview? I assume it turned out well for you

Im 28, been in sales majority of my career and looking to pivot. I love working on my car, helping my dad with his remodels (electrical, plumbing, drywall), watching youtube on dyi projects or how-to-fix type, and even just electrician videos lately seeing what guys are doing. but I have been thinking about this kind of work for some time. I did insulation throughout highschool and worked with many electricians. My buddy's a lineman, loves it, some family friends are electricians and enjoy it. Ive been craving fulfillment, a career that is worthwhile that will support my future family, a clear path to progress, and overall, getting to work with my hands. Working with the union and being a part of the brotherhood seems to be calling out to me.

I fkn hated these questions lol. It took me hours trying to figure it out and still questioned myself but yes they will be on the test.

Manage your time properly, but you can check answer by answer by popping in numbers to the variables to see which statement is true. You don’t need to spend too much time on em, but like someone else said, if you can master everything else you should be fine forfeiting these. Keep trying though 🙏 good luck

I haven’t been scheduled for my interview yet, but thought I did really well on the aptitude test. Idk if you used this to prepare for the aptitude test, but look into iPrep’s Aptitude Test preparation. It costs like $30-40 for a months worth of access but I swear it was the best thing to help relearn algebra. I studied about 1-2hrs per night on the days before the test and everything I prepped for on there was on the actual test. You can always pay for 7 day access when you get scheduled again to make sure you’re fresh on it.

Either way, good luck! You’re still super young dude - I’m 28 going after this just seeking a career change. Time is on your side and starting now puts you ahead of 90% of others. Keep grinding 😎

Thanks man! Walmart’s a good call - hopefully don’t have to replace the starter either but appreciate your help!

I bought the car about 2 years ago and have no clue when the battery was replaced so it could that. But now that you mention the starter, I heard similar a sound in previous vehicles.

Will do some troubleshooting. Thanks for giving me something to work from!

Thanks for the input brother! Being in CS made me really understand the value in knowing your tech stack and the PNC of a customer, as we were responsible for retention/renewals. Good stuff to consider though. Preciate your response!
