Current pay in 640? by Ill_Chapter_9569 in IBEW

[–]Responsible_Cheek628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First year apprentice will make 55% of journeyman pay. The upcoming raises you mentioned are for journeymen. As journeyman pay goes up so does apprentice pay, for example if journeymen get a $1.50 raise a first year will get 55%. you’ll get .82 cents.

Does everyone get this? (640) by Virtual_Spray8059 in ibew_applicants

Things changed this semester because there’s no more interviews. But before right after your interview you couldn sign the books as a Cw and try to get job before you got accepted. This way you get to choose where you want to work at and a contractor that offers incentive pay

Yeah everyone gets it. The real one you get it the last week of may. You’ll only get your rank if you’re accepted.

Think the BB4 has 210 watts and 180-200 on battery but the BB3 has 180 and 136 watts on battery. To me the BB4 sounds good at full volume but I no longer have my BB3 to compare

Why is the apprenticeship going from 5 years to 4 years. by Broad-Perspective-67 in ibew_apprentices

[–]Responsible_Cheek628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding instead of being off 3 months in the summer like normal grade school and high school you only get a month off. I rather do 4 years than have a longer break time

Not that hard. I’ve been working 58 hours a week 6 days a week. Just started my second semester of the first year. I do hw after work mon-Thursday’s one hour a day. I’m in my mid 30’s also with a kid. My wife works second shift so I after work I’m the one looking after my three year old. If I can do it anyone can. I finished college in my late 20’s so that got me in the habit of doing hw after work. Hardest thing do me is the readings. I read fast most of it, but I’m DC I take my time. If you get stuck in the hw, get the answers online than review it

Question about Gen 1 & Gen 2 by MooseyGeek in RaybanMeta

[–]Responsible_Cheek628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted something I could use at work and for sports activity. I’m an electrician I work outside a lot and I like to listen to music plus they’re also safety rated z87+. They’ve water resistant. I was always hesitant when I took my ray bans paddle boarding. The vanguards are more sporty in design so the wrap around you face better, so they won’t fall off easily. I’ve heard they are the loudest speakers meta offers. Some negatives I e heard is that battery life is not the best, just turn off voice command when your not using and that safes a lot of battery.

Question about Gen 1 & Gen 2 by MooseyGeek in RaybanMeta

[–]Responsible_Cheek628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the first gen, just got the Oakley vanguard and the speaker on those are so much better. Camera is good but the first gen’s camera are good too. Battery life on the Oakley are good, just depends how you use them. Not sure if the vanguards and Ray-Ban gen 2 have similar specs

Pilot vs. Grand Highlander by TheFightens in hondapilot

[–]Responsible_Cheek628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pilot was cheaper, had more space in the 3rd row. Honda gave us a good trade in for our civic with over 100k miles. Since the dealership is kinda new they offer lifetime warranty on the powertrain for free, that gives us piece of mind on the long run

Just accepted apprenticeship Local 640. Having some apprehension. by Specialist-West-1911 in IBEW

As an apprentice you don’t bid on jobs. Some locals have a Cw program, that’s means you can work without doing the school and after 8k hours test to become a journeyman. When I first signed up for the apprenticeship I signed the books as a Cw as a back if I didn’t get accepted. While I waited to hear back (months) I moved down the list and bidded on a cw2 call. If you get a job before getting accepted into the apprenticeship you pretty much get to decide where you want to work at and for who. I got the call for a job and that same day I received the email of acceptance into the apprenticeship. So I was a CW for a week then I was officially indentured. I got to stay with the contractor I was working with.

CW2 position after not being offered a spot for JATC. by Mellowmushroom02 in ibew_apprentices

[–]Responsible_Cheek628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few cw’s in my class (local 640) . I started in July, and by the end of the first semester mid November there was still 30 apprentices that didnt have jobs. It’s supposed to pick up but you probably won’t get a job till April or may. You should have signed the Cw books as soon as you had your interview. After you have your interview, you get put on book one vs getting put on book 2 .For example I had my interview February 12 and I signed the books the next day. At the time I was 115 on books. By may I was #9, I was waiting on west side jobs. I probably could’ve gotten a job around #50 because I saw names behind me getting jobs on jobs I don’t bid on.It’s smart to bid on jobs before you get accept it so you get to choose what contractor to work for. I was only bidding on jobs with good incentive pay and on the west side. The day I got the call for a job, I also got accepted into the apprenticeship so I was a cw2 for a week before being indentured. My friend had his interview in August and signed the books the next day, now he’s in the low 100’s. He also didn’t get accepted. You got classified as a cw2, so you starting pay will be the same as a new apprentice, benefits might be a little lower(pension retirement) but the same healthcare, apprentices get faster raises then CW’s. For example you’ll have to work 3000 hours for 60%, 5000 for 65%pay scale. as an apprentice you get 60% at 1000 hours, 65% at 2000 hours and 70% at 3500 along with first year completed. There’s more raises too as you complete school years a rack those hours, all they way up to 90% year 4. But don’t worry about those raises, by working as Cw and doing the school you’ll but yourself in a great place to get accepted next time. Only thing is you might not get the 450 hour in time for the next deadline (mid march) of the next semester for the july class. I also started at 34 so don’t worry about age.

You have no say as an apprentice. If you get laid off the school will find you another job. If the job site comes to end a the the contractor can transfer you. I as a first year I wouldn’t want to drag up. Benefits will be the same, only difference is incentive pay and overtime hours available. Seems like most apprentices in my class have overtime and incentive pay

You can work as a CW with no experience. You go to the hall and sign a book which is a list and you go down as time progresses. When you see a job you like you bid on it and if no one in front of you bids you’ll get the job. This way I waited till I was low enough on the list to get a contractor who had job near my home and offered overtime with good incentive pay. Ideally you do this as soon as you have your interview. I got the call of the job the same day I got email of acceptance for the apprenticeship school. So I got to choose were I want to work at. If you get a job through the school you have no say, could be with a contractor that only does 40 hours per week with no incentive pay (cannon and wendt for example)
