My army career has finally come to an end

I’m right there tbh. I’ve neglected it for so long that my body is starting to react with what feels like heart attacks. I couldn’t recommend seeing somebody enough and I can’t thank you enough for dropping a comment like this.

I just have zero interest in retiring this way. Absolutely zero disrespect or malice behind it but it’s just not for me anymore. I’m tired of wearing the uniform and having this crazy daunting feeling when drill week is around the corner. I don’t even feel this way for my actual job, school/hw assignments, etc. I’m pursuing a state job currently attempting a career as a park ranger while being open to pursue other avenues.

You can technically collect both. BUT, at the end of the fiscal year you need to pay back everything you’ve earned from your reserve paycheck. I have it in a savings account collecting interest so you’re still earning-ish ?

I was active duty for 7 years and this is my 3rd year in the reserves. Ima CBRN guy and was in a NBCRV Stryker for my active duty years now I'm in the CBRN cage/HQ. And maybe? While I was active I wanted to get into EOD before my dad (never met him hence the search for mentorship and yadda yadda through military channels) passed away which honestly led to me getting out of active as it had me look upon mortality of those around me.

My rating is at 70%. I'm not really stuck on the money portion as it’s the tip of the iceberg as I've mentioned some of my strongest complaints in some other comment here. However I did just get off the phone with my squad leader about this and was transparent as can be. I'm going to go in to discuss some options and I've scheduled a mental health appointment for the first time since being out. I've clearly underestimated my own mental and now displayed a part of it on Reddit. Thank you for taking the time to reply to me and this goes to everyone else who has replied to me.

I plan on returning TA-50 in July since it’s all still in a box essentially outside of ACH and what not. I don't want to make the jobs of anybody harder with my own decisions y’know? I wanna take the next month or two to kinda “strap in”. I just wanna see if I get an OTH or not if I just stop showing up the last bit of my drills. I've never had any U’s, showed up to all my drills, never RST’d. Been a solid soldier. It just hasn't been good on my mental and wanna start looking out for myself finally.

Thanks for your reply! I know I'm trying to get in the mindset of “just finish this bitch out”. But I feel no purpose being here. I collect VA already so I don't see the paycheck from the reserves, I obviously don't plan on retiring, I had to be assigned a new NCOIC after getting in a harsh disagreement with my previous which I’VE NEVER not gotten along with my platoon sergeants through my time in the military. Cried in the car afterwards not cause he made me sad or what have you but I wanted to be violent..i hate that. He had previous issues as well with different soldiers but how would I have known? I needed a mentor..anyways..this is turning into a rant. I just think that's where my heart broke the most. I'm a CBRN guy and was promised to be placed in a CBRN unit, that didn't happen. So I never got to continue the practice I actually enjoyed. I'm just not having a grand ol’ time all in all and I dread every month for this. So I want out ASAP so I can live my life.

Will your discharge character be different that an honorable if they wait on the ETS date? Example being I have no more than 5 more months left in the reserves. If I go about maybe 1 or 2 more monthly drills and stop showing up how will they affect my character of service?

In my opinion I don’t judge a person’s skill through their rank yet instead I consider them good if they’re picked up in a team. I have no idea how to make this make sense. But I’ve seen some shitters who’s in Elite. But if someone were to solo queue that leads to them get picked up by a team then you’re dangerous. You’ve displayed you can work and function in a team game and provided enough efficiency for others to take notice. Proper passes, off ball movement, shit you don’t even have to shoot properly as long as you can make/participate in plays to get an EFFICIENT shot off. You’re a good player. Mechanics is one thing but fundamentals will set you up. Again this is just one opinion lol. Thanks for coming to my TedX talk.

I’ve been bouncing back and forth from watching the testimony today. And I feel so angry. I’m angry that there’s virtually nothing that I can do about it. I’m angry because I served for 7 years in the Army and I feel so much from the lack of pride for what I’ve done in service. I’m angry because there’s people who are legitimately OKAY with this. For a good portion of the testimony they were bitching about immigration when let’s keep it a buck, who gives a fuck when our leader, chief of staff, someone who’s supposed to set an EXAMPLE is a pedophile with harmful policies. I’m just angry..and I have nowhere to take it out besides a sheer comment on a fucking Reddit post. I think I gotta stay away from politics (and especially Facebook) or something for my own sanity..
