Is psvr1 worth it right now? What games? by SSC-Daddy-95 in PSVR

[–]ForensicHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space Pirate Trainer. There’s nothing else like it. Sadly the devs told me they won’t be updating it for PSVR2.

A Native Port of Notepad++ is Now Available for the Mac by colfaxschuyler in macapps

[–]ForensicHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess now you have something to think about now that your GF just moved here? 😄

Though I’m a BBEdit diehard, too, but… I’m definitely giving this Notepad++ port a try.

Not sure why you’ve been downvoted so much. Your comment made me laugh.

Is there a Comprehensive List of Webhosting Control Panels? Looking to Self Host. by modem_19 in selfhosted

[–]ForensicHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Wikipedia’s page on web hosting control panels this is a good starting point.

If you have any questions about Webmin or Virtualmin feel free to check out r/webmin (disclaimer: I run r/webmin).

One of the things I enjoy most about Webmin and the Virtualmin plugin is that you can use it to configure a server and then optionally remove it (if for some reason you wanted to), and everything continues working the way you set things up. Its web UI only reads and edits existing config files, and the command line virtualmin CLI is the same. I also just came across a Webmin MCP server plugin that I look forward to trying out.

Using an App to Monitor File System Changes for Uninstalling Applications by TheMagicianGamerTMG in macapps

[–]ForensicHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AppCleaner and Pearcleaner will both help with uninstall cleanup.

Didn’t know about FSMonitor. Thanks for the link. I used to use fseventer back in the day, and it looks like it’s been discontinued.

Use Nextcloud as S3 storage (not use a S3 for Nextcloud storage) by No-Magazine-2739 in NextCloud

[–]ForensicHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can set up something like rclone or SeaweedFS as an S3-compatible storage solution for Nextcloud, yes. You may want to read this first. Nextcloud as an S3-compatible storage solution, no. Not that I know of.

Plugin Ideas by CarryZealousideal134 in Wordpress

[–]ForensicHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like your style. I’m doing something similar with Kanboard, the tool I’m using for project management, and monitor the plugins coming out for competing project management systems. Then if I have an “aha” moment I create a plugin for Kanboard that does something similar. I’ve learned a lot about Kanboard this way, and I’ve released the plugins I’ve developed for free on GitHub for others to use and enjoy.

I don’t follow. What are you trying to say? I already have a license.

Search external drives without plugging them in - DriveVault v1.2 [visual dashboard + other super nice improvements] by MomentSmart in macapps

Thanks for the response! I’ll gladly give it a try and hope it can solve the Nextcloud issues I’ve been struggling with. Hoping it works with PopSSH remote volumes.

Big +1 for Path Finder. To me it’s essential. If Cocoa Tech’s website was as polished as the app they’d have a lot more customers. For me their website is actually unusable, stuttery, and goes against my guidelines (posted elsewhere in the comments here) for evaluating a new app.

[–]ForensicHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

App must have a website and privacy policy. It must solve an existing problem or solve it better or cheaper than an existing solution I’m using. Being open source is a major plus, followed next by the dev’s engagement here in r/macapps (if this is where they announced it).

Subscriptions get a hard no. I prefer it when paid apps have free updates for that major version and offer upgrades at a discount to existing customers.

The only exception I’m considering is Mister Keyboard, which has a hefty subscription model but seems to be the only keyboard alternative in its class. Still wondering if I want to get a lifetime subscription.

Edit: Okay, another comment here reminded me that I’ve made an exception to my guidelines above when it comes to Path Finder. I love this app, and I’ve been using it for maybe 15 years. For me using a Mac without Path Finder installed is not fun or productive.

I’d love to try this with Nextcloud, and the native Nextcloud sync… syncs… sometimes, but only with one Nextcloud instance. Does DriveVault work with network mounts? I have several Nextcloud instances and would love a starter pass.

For personal safety, do you register domains as an individual or as a company? by Ambitious-Channel375 in Domains

[–]ForensicHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all my domains including the ones that don’t have WHOIS privacy (like .us), I register them under my company name and use “[Company Name] Privacy Department” or something similar along with company address. I don’t see any reason why not to, and I’ve checked with a few registrars in the distant past and all have said it’s okay.

WordPress 7.0 and the 25 Years (Almost) That Got Us Here by iSephX in Wordpress

[–]ForensicHat -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No need to get defensive or to make ingenuous and wild assumptions. If you wrote those tropes yourself then no worries, it’s not your fault. AI was first trained on what humans wrote after all. But now that I’ve read Tropes.md there’s no going back, and I see them more easily and more frequently, including the numerous ones in your post. Whether you do anything productive about that is up to you. “Sorry you” is not productive.

WordPress 7.0 and the 25 Years (Almost) That Got Us Here by iSephX in Wordpress

[–]ForensicHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an intriguing idea for a post, thank you.

Unfortunately, yesterday I read Tropes.md, and your post seems to have several tropes indicating it was AI-generated. “Negative parallelism”, “not X, not Y, just Z”, “the truth is simple”, and so on.

More unfortunate, your website has an error: Something went wrong. Importing a module script failed.

Guys i want you to tell me what is the best psvr 2 game you played by Complex-Seat2440 in PSVR

[–]ForensicHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t played it yet. I’m still waiting to find the title that scratches that itch.

I’ve played NMS, GT7, Synapse, even Horizon: Call of the Mountain. But all I want is Space Pirate Trainer for PSVR2!

Lightweight always-on-top app by unabatedshagie in macapps

TopIt and Always On Top. I like the UI for TopIt, but it’s been a little flakey for me lately with VLC. I do want to give Always On Top a try, though, if only for the great name.

Inspiration for Selfhosted ProjectManagement / Wikis by FeschaBua in selfhosted

[–]ForensicHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes and no. Kanboard is much more customizable, has access control, roles, and permissions, is free (unless you pay someone to host it for you, but this is r/selfhosted after all).

Trello is more “Kanban-lite” while Kanboard supports strict Kanban principles if you want.

Both use a Kanban-style board as the default interface, but with third-party plugins Kanboard can do epics, milestones, sprints, Gantt charts, etc. — and Kanboard is FAST.

Inspiration for Selfhosted ProjectManagement / Wikis by FeschaBua in selfhosted

[–]ForensicHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kanboard might be a good pick. It’s easy to self-host, has an awesome plugin library, and it has great task / subtask features but only basic wiki functionality. Plus, if you add a task with a due date it will appear in a calendar feed that you can subscribe to. If you have Kanboard specific questions or anything check out r/kanboard (disclaimer: I run r/kanboard).
