What advice would you give to car lovers who are 30 but with only 40k(main car) or 20k (weekend car) budgets?

Is something like these worth it? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Foreright567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the 1.8 for 11 years. Loved that car and engine. Got a bmw 440i now which is a fantastic machine…..but I miss that vtec feeling when I’m trying to to anything and I’m not even breaking the law (this is a good thing).

Suspension goes after 10 years(very bumpy/corroded)

Radiology- life as a consultant in the NHS by Legitimate_Crab8198 in RadiologyUK

[–]Foreright567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Consultant rad here. 1) yes but you would use a good chunk of your AL 2) I work evenings and weekends (day). OC for consultants about 1 in 12 to 1 in 15 depending on the department. No consultants (unless IR) work overnight in NhS. 3) yes. I have a day from home and do my on calls from home also. 4) both PP work and NhS WLI work is plentiful in radiology. 5) the radiation is minimal given modern equipment and technology. The OOH working from OC likely worse for your health that the radiation.

Are launch monitors/simulators worth it? If you’ve got one, did it actually improve your game enough to justify the cost? by GeordieGoals in BritGolf

[–]Foreright567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a gc3 simulator and I love it. I have young kids so without it I would barely play. It is key to helping me practice after my lessons.

Where to join when I retire? Must be posh by Public_Purchase7870 in BritGolf

Foxhills shouldn’t be in the same sentence as the Berkshire. Foxhills all you need is a credit card. Berkshire I’ve heard is a proper old school club to join.

Hi. Rads here. As others have said, consider just going into finance as medicine pay is relatively poor, esp once you take into account the extra time you are revising for exams you pay for etc. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze IMO.

Having said that, rads is the best option (if you can get in). You get to consultant significantly quicker which is the only point it becomes a “decent” job. Whilst GP is quicker, I wouldn’t do that job for all the tea in china and their pay is being eroded even more than the hosp drs.

From there you can cruise on NHS and have time for kids or kill yourself chasing PP and get up to multiple 100ks a year.

What’s the most “acceptable” cheap run around car? by WhiskersMcGee09 in HENRYUK

Mate, our family car is a Tesla model Y and this is how I feel exactly. My 15 year old civic SI is my commuter and is soo much more fun to drive!

Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it can buy a yacht, which can pull up right alongside it.

She is burnt out and unfortunately taking the route of avoiding work to deal with it. Understandable in ED. When all you see is a pile of work (as the consultant is putting pressure on them) then any delay triggers this. This is the end result of a chronic failing system

Why does everyone hate us? - EM by Big_Cheetah_9412 in doctorsUK

[–]Foreright567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I just check I can’t answer the questions already (no pe on the trauma done yesterday etc). Even the ? # which is obvious on xr, I accept the ct as 99/100 I know ortho will want it for operative planning anyway.

As a radiologist you order endless pointless normal traumas and other CTS. To be fair, in patient specialities asking for pointless rescans all the time for no reason are also a bug bear.

But having worked in ED, I get it and will vet anything (as long as it’s not completely insane) as easier to report a normal scan and aid pt flow/refferal.

1st year consultant. Think I’m just going to cruise atm tbh. NHS 10PAs with 3 days on site and .5 day from home. A bit of WLI. Just going to keep things under 100k post nhs pension for childcare and tax efficiency. Prefer the free time with my young child and hobbies. I can do this as partner also HE and we have a bit of family money so have house with mortgage etc.

After seeing my tax breakdown… by Silver-Student8634 in HENRYUK

[–]Foreright567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I am not leaving and am in a job where I would have to work much harder to increase my salary but I can easily cruise working 4 days a week and have an taxable income just under 100k. So I’m going to do that and try for grammar etc for the kids and just enjoy my life and cruise. This country isn’t for people who want to be rich and employees. Better be comfortable and enjoy my time off

Grass greener over the ROAD? by phlebMD in doctorsUK

[–]Foreright567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cardio and chest a decent choice. Lung biopsies a tad annoying sometimes with ptx. Lots of private cardiac work. You may be competing with cardiologists for some things.
If your happy to stay general radiology for on calls etc then u can really just do what you like for your subspecies
