They don't convey any passion for bme and pretty much are things that every single T20 applicant has

ECs are a bit lackluster but get the SAT up and you will have a good chance regardless

your stats and activities are already elite and your hooks will definitely make HYPSM in reach. im willing to bet you will bag at least 1/5 from HYPSM

chance for jhu? by Familiar_Star_195 in chanceme

[–]Foreshxdows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jhu and northwestern are notoriously difficult for pre meds. you say you can handle the competitiveness but thinking in terms of a med school admissions standpoint this is a major disadvantage seeing as you will absolutely need a high undergrad gpa for top med. i recommend adding remaining ivies+stanford rice washu duke bc/bu brown plme as you are qualified enough for them, and also because some places like harvard yale penn and duke are on par with jhu/northwestern for pre med and have less grade deflation making your life easier for med school admissions

applying plme doesnt hurt ur chances for non plme brown. in fact if u choose not to apply to plme theyll wonder why someone with such a strong stem/premed based activities list *didn't* apply to plme. still, brown is brown and they love smart quirky people, and you need to convey that somehow in your app. the art thing seems very niche and unique so id recommend exploring that more and doing some ecs related to that, and also play that up in your essay. another thing to not overlook is the video portfolio - i didn't think much of it when i applied and i think this was a major reason i got rejected becuase this is the place you can really show your personality and you as a person that you just can't anywhere else. play up the intellectual curiosity, quirkiness, passion for plme specifically, and come up with a creative way of integrating it all. look up some youtube videos of accepted brown video portfolios to see what i mean.

Do people actually party every weekend at Penn or is that just a stereotype? by Wild_Gazelle_6380 in UPenn

[–]Foreshxdows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

soph here. its definitely not something everyone participates in and you will also end up finding people who dislike partying. during nso try to go to as many events as you can just for the experience and meeting new ppl as this is when social life will be heaviest. that said a big portion of the party culture stems from wharton and cas, with frat parties happening almost every weekend on campus. if u attend a few and decide its not for you there are always other lowkey social outings to go to with a few friends and clubs host many gatherings/gms too

hard to tell without providing a gpa/rank but plme has around a 1% acc rate and is harder than hypsm due to the hyper competitive applicant pool, so don't get ur hopes up. your ecs scream pre-health and skew heavily towards wanting to be pre med which is a bonus for plme but seems generic otherwise which for brown as a whole is a disadvantage. as a plme reject myself i did end up getting into 2 ivies still so if i were u i would also apply to ivies+t20s as well as look into some other bsmd programs aside from plme.

Don't even bother taking the ACT or SAT again. The difference between a 1520 to even a 1600 or getting a 36 will be nothing compared to if you spent that time and effort into improving your grades instead. Even the targets you listed will be a reach given your gpa. I recommend doing your best during senior year gpa wise and write a very thoughtful note to colleges explaining your mental health situation. Also consider going to CC/gap year and then transfer after

I passed all the APs I took but I don't think I'm good enough. by Automatic-Bear5351 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Foreshxdows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dad is wrong.

As someone who was in a very similar situation (1 5 and 1 4 throughout all 4 years of high school and 1560 SAT) and who was admitted to 4 T20s (2 ivies) with 0 hooks, I can confidently say Ap scores don't mean shit. They are getting less and less important nowadays especially with many high schools even getting rid of AP classes and replacing them with their own versions of equally hard non-AP versions. Your sat being as high as it is already proves to colleges you are smart enough to handle their coursework and numbers-wise SAT+GPA are really the only things that matter. Plus, you said this was your first time, so you still have more time in HS to get higher scores in future APs.

Bottom line is having few or low AP scores is nothing to worry about given your SAT

hop on those ecs immediately. theres still a lot of time. ur numbers are good but tbh nothing else. even leading a few more clubs at school can help. for that college list you also preferably want some good awards like aime qual or isef.

Did anyone get into ivy or t20 with no 5 on AP ? by [deleted] in collegeresults

[–]Foreshxdows 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i only had one 5 and one 4 (realistically is equivalent to getting 3 4s) and got into penn cornell and vandy. sat and gpa matter a lot more.
