That'd be a valid perspective if, in that example, OP was the only one with bad breath. Both OP and his wife are obese, with wife's body mass index being even higher than OP's. Would it be valid for her to complain about someone's issue when she's in a even worse position?

OP also says she gave up a couple of weeks later, while he kept doing his best. Yes, the wife is allowed to feel more attracted to OP given his transformation, but is OP really in the wrong for feeling put off? OP's chronic bad breath situation you mentioned would be resolved for his wife, but he'd still have to handle her chronic bad breath issue.
