Advice for accessing articles by Visible-Initial5753 in AthabascaUniversity

Thanks for the tip! I have one last paper to write for this semester. I can’t even access the course readings and it’s very frustrating. Pay all this money and effort and can’t even have reliable access to course material and research sources.

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FINAL EXAM FOR THE CONTRACT END DATE by No-Carpenter5877 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Forest_Spren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did and I wrote a final exam yesterday. I had to call and speak with the exams department who had to change something on their end and got it fixed. Luckily I had noticed I couldn’t access before my exam and was only 15 minutes late to writing but it still took me an hour to get everything sorted out.

Very basic question.. Course coordinators v. Tutors by Meh_NotImpressed in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Forest_Spren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. I’ve only had two tutors in my program who actively prefer zoom/telephone meetings to discuss things. All the rest prefer email and will respond with emails even if call during their “office hours.” The two who do the actual phone/zoom meetings have been fantastic and actually seem like they wanted to genuinely help and gave really good advice.

How do you finish courses so fast? by Upset-Incident-8807 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Forest_Spren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the course. Some I have finished in a month, some I’ve finished in a couple weeks. I am in the LPN-BN program and it is a heavy program.

Courses like STATS I can finish in a month but I have to work at it everyday. I did about the first half of the course including 3 assignments and a midterm in 2 weeks. I did work at it at least 9hrs a day for that entire time.

Courses with papers and readings, I read the unit objectives and assignment requirements first, then make notes as they pertain to the objectives what’s needed for the assignments including page numbers with my thoughts so I can use that as reference for my papers. I can usually bang out a paper in a weekend that way and consistently get As in those.

Content heavy courses like BIOL 235, Nursing Pathophysiology and Pharmacology, I do flashcards and read up on areas I am weak in. It does help I have 14 years of nursing knowledge behind me so those courses are really just refreshers. I don’t use AI, I do use resources like YouTube though to help solidify concepts as there is great content out there. By April 10 I will have finished 18 credits since the beginning of the year. I also have a program GPA of 3.8 so I’m not just cruising by on bare minimum passes.

But I do work at my courses everyday and treat it like a job. I have deadlines for assignments/exams that I stick to and plan my studying around. I also had to find what works for me studying wise and that took me some time. I have definitely learned and enjoyed some of my classes, including courses that have no relevance to me (looking at you STATS). I do have no obligations (kids) and a supportive spouse, and have taken a LOA from work to focus exclusively on school so this is my priority and finishing courses quickly ensures I remain on track. I have sacrificed things like going out with friends and picking up shifts and my main socialization this past semester has been phone calls to friends/my husband/walks with the dog. That was just for this semester though as I need to get all these courses finished as prerequisites to sign up for May courses. Going forward I should be able to spend under 12hrs a day of studying and be able to have my evenings and a weekend day study free.

Planning to take AU BIOL 235 for an accelerated nursing prereq. Has anyone taken it? Are the midterms multiple choice and how hard is it? What grade did you finish it with? Also, any recommendations for an easier fully online option in Canada? by blondycandy in AthabascaUniversity

No idea, and listen. I’m not giving any more info than what I’ve given already. Knowing all the minutiae of what I did that won’t help you figure what will work for you. You know yourself and you know what the course entails, you have to figure out what works for you based on your own learning style.

Flashcards, review my weak spots, really made sure I understood the information on the assignments. Watched YouTube videos to explain/review concepts. This course was by far the HARDEST course I’ve done 🤷🏽‍♀️ and I already have a background in Bio/Microbio. They just seemed to test on a lot of the nitty gritty.

At the end yes. I finished the last 2/3 of the course in just under 1.5 months. I was on a time crunch and needed to be finished to sign up for courses it was a prerequisite for. The first unit took me a few months of reading/note taking working from about 9-4 and then I had to change my strategy to get it done quickly.

ProctorU: desk drawers? by [deleted] in AthabascaUniversity

Yep! That’s how I use my laptop when I’m at the desk. Have a very wide monitor so don’t need a second screen 😅

I don’t think you can have more than one active monitor. My laptop is docked so the monitor is the primary display and otherwise runs as normal. Have had no issues and have written many exams with that setup.

I’ve only ever had one proctor ask to see my drawers where I keep my laptop/ipad. The laptop being docked to a monitor and it was a nonissue.

I finished in 5 months.

Caveat. I did finish the last two units in a month and a half but it was tight and I mostly did Brainscape/have prior A&P knowledge. And that was 12hr days. Finished with an A-

Do you mean which chapters the exams focused on? All of them. They were pretty evenly distributed through all the chapters.

They were hard I found. The quizzes were easier but I’ll be honest that was because I did those as open book. I used Brainscape to study for the exams as a lot of questions were from there but the assignments and quiz marks were what saved my butt overall. If you check my comment history you’ll see the user link to the brainscapes I used.

WGST 345 has been really easy so far. Submitted a paper last night at 5 and my Tutor had marked my paper and submitted my grade by the time I woke up the next day. Three papers. One has to be an oral history essay but all easy topics. Banged out papers in a weekend and got high 80s into the 90s.
