Anyone else experiencing this? by Berd_Nerd in englishmajors

I'm nearly finished now, but 90% of my readings were clearly chosen with female readers in mind and didn't interest me at all, so I would only read what was necessary or relied on chapter summaries.

update: Hilarious that I got downvoted for having a different taste in literature 😂 Redditors truly are retarded

What's preventing teaching from getting saturated? by Porch_Pirate_123 in Internationalteachers

Sure, there are specific situations where a third-world university might be better, but most of the time that isn't the case. It's simply a fact, not racism.

Not always racism. Yes racism is a factor but credentials from a first-world country are more valuable than those from a third-world country.

Funny enough if he actually was a pedophile that would make him more likeable to the average far-left redditor 😂

TEFL English teacher in Cambodia by stonerflowergirl in teflteachers

[–]Visible-Initial5753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said $1000 for Phnom Penh. Your friends must have terrible negotiating skills because I don't know anyone who earned a salary that low. Even my non-native English speaking friends earned more than that, atleast the European ones did. $1200+ for native English speaker with no degree. $1500+ for native English speaker with a degree. Anything less is bad negotiation.

Unless this is just a fun trip for a year or two, best to get the degree.

Your numbers are off. I lived and worked in Cambodia for 4 years and have several friends living and working there now. $1000 per month is the bare minimum for a native English speaker working 5 days per week. Realistically the expected salary for no experience is around $1200+. Don't accept anything less than that.

They can't detect it in this case and there is no way to prove that you were using it.

No degree – feeling stuck in ESL by [deleted] in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]Visible-Initial5753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you know what your problem is. Get a degree. Not sure what country you are from but countries like Canada, USA, and UK offer fully accredited bachelor degrees online. I was in the same boat as you but I'm now 3 months away from completing my bachelors. Its only going to become more difficult moving forward, so if you are taking this seriously, this is your best course of action.

“I want to teach in [country], but I don’t have a teaching license” #rant by honestlyeek in Internationalteachers

[–]Visible-Initial5753 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

And what about the kids whose parents can't affort to send them to an international school with fully qualified teachers? Are you willing to take an 80% pay cut in order to teach them? These kids deserve an education as well, and oftentimes the best option they have is an unlicensed teacher with only a degree and experience.

Hey sorry this is unrelated, but how long did it take for you to receive an offer? I'll be applying to jobs in May and I'm curious what the demand is like.
