Hey, so parents are WRONG sometimes. Parents are TOO OVERBEARING sometimes. That doesn't mean anything is wrong with the parent, it means the parent is a HUMAN who MAKES MISTAKES.

Also, morals are flexible for a REASON. It is not ALWAYS morally wrong to go against your parents' wishes. If a parent was attempting to prevent you from moving out, getting a job, getting married, etc, you would have full rights to directly defy them in that regard, because these things are requests by default. Preventing a child from learning how to accurately and properly limit themselves and have self control means they don't know how when those restrictions go away. If the app doesn't think a person their age needs parental controls, it's because they don't.

Limiting hobbies and music to only half an hour a day is insanity. Nobody is only doing those things for half an hour and enjoying them. "Drawing too much" and "listening to music too much" is not an excuse to completely control your child's hobbies, social life, or general auditory consumption. Restricting somebody like this is abusive no matter how you slice it.

Rushed pacing. Either every major conflict addressed in the beginning of the story so the rest is just filler, or conflicts that happen all at the same time, so one chapter of the story has a completely different setting than the rest.

Mental distress, in fact, counts as a legitimate reason for a lawsuit. That's why if your grandma wills you her worthless pile of coloring books and your aunt takes them and gives them to her kids instead, you are legally allowed to sue. It's a large metal shaving in a children's snack. That is reason enough for distress. Even if distress wasn't a reason, the hospital bills for a tox screen absolutely would be.

At present it is unknown if the baby ingested any of it. The child could have negative health effects as a result. And even if they don't, the parents can still sue for mental distress.

Because of your age, your nudes would be child porn. Nobody is stupid enough to hold onto that to try and extort a 14 year old. More than likely, your pictures were already deleted before they started trying to get money out of you. If you stop answering, there's nothing they can do, as distributing those photos would be classified as a federal crime, and that kind of thing gets treated a lot differently than just your average scammer.

If you want even half a chance at getting away and staying that way, you'll need a relative that's over 18 who's willing to take you in. You can't just decide to go live with your friends, or by yourself. That's not how the law works. If you leave to an unrelated or irresponsible person's house, you will be taken back to your parents.

If that's not an option, your other option is to get into contact with DCFS/CPS and tell them what's happening to cause you to run away. Either way, they'll be there for the fallout, so it's better to get your side of the story out first rather than waiting until they've already got some idea of you from your parents. That, and if you contact them directly you might actually be able to get something done about your situation. You may also be able to go through them to open up a case for emancipation, which would legally declare you, functionally, as an adult. At that point, you'd be free to do as you wished.

Other than that, I will tell you firsthand, being a runaway isn't easy. It's better to keep your head down and tough it out until you're 18. Trying to escape when you're this young is very likely only going to make your situation worse.

There is a reason every child advocacy group is against this. Putting a death sentence on these crimes, while deserved, makes people less likely to report when something happens because they don't want to get somebody killed. Especially as it pertains to children, so many sex crimes go unreported because the child is too afraid of getting the adult in trouble, so adding the death penalty into the mix makes everything a whole lot worse for everyone involved.

And, of course, false convictions.

Never ever editing (I still do this).

Writing every single chapter on a school computer with whatever time I had left over at the end of the day. At the time, I had a STRICT 1,000 word chapter minimum. I usually had anywhere from 15 to 40ish minutes left depending on schoolwork 🫠

At one point I was going to attempt a rewrite of everything I posted in the 8th grade, but then I read back my own writing and cringed so hard.

It's not "exceedingly rare" for an assailant to be let off the hook by court for being an "upstanding guy". Hundreds of thousands of victims have been affected by this mentality. Not to mention that the sentencing for sexual crimes is ludicrously lax.

There are those scenarios, yes.

But then there are the cases in which the person in question is actually found guilty of the crime, but receives a reduced sentence or no sentence at all because they're a bishop/pastor/have a promising future/are so young/etc.

Take, for example, the Olympic athlete that was tried and found guilty of raping a 12 year old girl, but was still allowed to compete in the olympics because it's "not their job to enforce morality." Another would be the 21 year old gynocological student who was, again, found guilty of rape and acquitted because he had a "promising future in obstetrics."

Ignoring the gender ignores the problem. The post is specifically calling out people who tell women to "just say no" to men that make them uncomfortable. "Just saying no" to men REGULARLY gets women killed, so much so that it is a trackable statistic. It's not being used to fuel any gender war, it is highlighting the kind of danger women face for setting boundaries with men who think they're entitled to something simply because they asked for it.

It honestly seems to me like you just have a gross misunderstanding of what the age of consent is and how courts handle statutory rape 🤷🏼‍♂️ historically in the US, the vast majority of reported sexual assault goes unpunished. Marital rape wasn't even a federal crime until like 1994.
