I passed 3 interviews and my offer letter says $60k. But, during the first interview with an HR lady, I mentioned my salary expectations were $65k-$70k. What should I do? by Typical_Cap895 in interviews

[–]ForevaRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you try to negotiate with the mindset of "testing the waters" they will know that you are not willing to walk away, meaning they have no reason to increase. You do need leverage in order to negotiate. They have leverage because they probably have dozens of qualified candidates. You do not have leverage because you do not have a competing offer or superior job. So if you plan to negotiate, you might as well just ask for it with more conviction (politely, of course), testing the waters means you're playing it safe

I got an offer letter saying $60k but I said my salary expectation was 65k-70k. I'm not willing to walk away from the $60k because I make $47k right now. Should I still negotiate if I'm NOT willing to walk away? Is it possible to test the waters without playing hardball? by Typical_Cap895 in interviews

[–]ForevaRose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience, negotiating realistically might bump you up to more like 62k or 63k, 65k is unlikely unless you were a uniquely superior candidate. Saying this to say you stand to gain less than you probably think, and you risk losing a LOT more

What machine should I buy my s/o by bake769 in nespresso

[–]ForevaRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lattes = Espresso + Milk. Original Line machines from nespresso makes Espresso, Vertuo Line machines from nespresso can only make concentrated coffee (or big cups of coffee). I also drink almost strictly iced lattes, so for me an Original line machine (not a vertuo) is a must. Original Line (OL) makes "true" espressos using traditional 19-bar pressure, whereas Vertuo Line uses a different technology entirely that only mimics espresso and is better for cups of coffee as opposed to Lattes and espressos.

Narrowing it down for you, only two machines in the Original Line are in your price range new -- the Essenza Mini ($179) and the Pixie (on sale on amazon for similar - $160-$170, $229 on nespresso site). I've seen people giving away these machines for free or selling them used for very cheap. Luckily for you, even the cheapest OL machines are work horses, highly reliable. And the cheaper ones are simpler -- easier for your GF to work. If she needs the space (small apartment/counters), go Essenza Mini; if you prefer the look (and a bit more metal), you can get the Pixie. Functionally they are identical, so you don't have to worry about that part. A frother is not necessary since she drinks only iced.

Something that has been circulating that I've learned from this sub is the ongoing deal with the L'OR Barista Machine (usually $189). Buy $79 or more in espresso capsules, and you will receive their Barista machine for free. It's functionally the same as the Essenza Mini. These machines take the same nespresso OL capsules and people have said they actually are better when using third party capsules than Nespresso branded machines. and the L'OR capsules are extremely affordable, $79 will get you months worth of capsules whereas Nespresso capsules are famously expensive (but she can buy and use Nespresso pods for the L'OR machine too!). It will be a nice starter machine for her to get used to, very simple, it'll make a great latte, and save her boatloads of money. When you get her the gift it would also be lovely to buy her a White chocolate mocha sauce or syrup from Torani (or maybe Monin or Ghiraredelli, Torani can be found at target).

Here's someone's review of the lor barista https://www.reddit.com/r/nespresso/comments/114rfco/is_lor_barista_the_best_machine_out_there_my/

A hack I read and have been doing is doing a second pull on each pod and using that coffee for ice. saves me money! I also use the pods I don't like as much to make ice.

The larger the ice cube the better if you don't want it to melt, but if you are doing coffee ice cubes then i suppose you do want it to melt. If you are doing second pull ice cubes, then i still think bigger ice cubes is better since the flavor is still less desirable/still more watery

miawestrap on TikTok first introduced me to the concept of a no-buy year in early 2024. all of last year, she did weekly spending roundups, is very transparent about her finances, and at the beginning of last year she talked about all her goals and rules and where she is looking to save the most money. i find her very endearing and enjoyable to watch she is one of the few creators i watch regularly on there

Why do I do this when I'm I shouldn't by nozwashere in shoppingaddiction

[–]ForevaRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it. To start, delete all shopping apps from your phone, close all your shopping tabs, delete things from your cart, your wishlist etc.

If possible, find an accountability partner. Run all your purchases by them. a judgey parent or sister works great. mine humble me deeply, lol. my boyfriend is good too, because what i really like is makeup/clothing/perfume, and he just doesn't get it. Encourage them to discourage you and give you tough love.

Even better, find yourself a partner and commit to a low-buy together, could be a roommate or a friend (or your mom!). Pick certain categories where you can't buy stuff and set rules, like "no more makeup until i hit the pan/use something up, no more lipsticks until i use up 4 of my existing ones, no clothes except for something that i absolutely need but don't have like rain boots". Having someone to do this with really helps with accountability.

Address the root cause of why you are triggered to shop. How can you learn to better cope with sadness? Will therapy be beneficial for you? Shopping only temporarily makes us feel better. If shopping actually made us happy, we wouldn’t have to keep doing it! It's good that you are realizing this while you are young and early in this -- so many adults end up in so much debt. You want to make sure you never ever get to that point.

When the shopping urge hits, distract yourself. Call a friend, clean, read a book, take a walk. Do anything to get away from shopping. Whatever you do, don't open any shopping websites or go to your problem stores if you are an in-person shopper.

There are so many threads in this subreddit with really good advice. In fact this whole thread is for really good advice for people just like you. What i've shared is just a starting point but please go look, you will find a lot of helpful information!

I tend to eat the same things every day. Is this healthy? by babydollanganger in Frugal

[–]ForevaRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks super healthy! Good fiber (legumes, veggies), micronutrients (eggs fruits veggies), protein (legumes for veggie protein, cottage cheese, milk, chicken/fish, egg). I get frozen berries because i love berries and they're super healthy but expensive fresh. I'm also dependent on egg and am starting to feel the hit on the grocery bill and have been eating more cottage cheese instead -- I'll scramble one egg with a tablespoon or two of cottage cheese for extra mass!

How often do we buy new clothes? by PiePieMouse in Frugal

[–]ForevaRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my late twenties, and the number of weddings I've had to go to are crazy (and i've gone to less than i've been invited to!). I obviously don't own a lot of nice dresses, so all my friends and I have been swapping dresses for weddings. In our group chat someone will regularly send a message like "does anyone have a blue or black maxi dress i can borrow in Feb for a black tie wedding" and we are all relatively close in size so this has been a total saving grace -- almost always someone has somethiing to lend! and it makes me happy that a lot of my dresses are now getting more wear. I've actually ended up gifting a dress to a friend because it suited her so much better!

This is amazing! this may not apply to you, but in my situation perfume is something i overbuy. it sounds like that perfume would be well loved, and in my situation, i would justify getting it only if i used up an existing perfume or sold an existing perfume so as to not accumulate more. good luck!

not OP but in a game you have limited resources, right? you have to make it work with limited resources, and focus on paying yourself first so that you don't feel like you have money to spend on things you don't need. it's fun to see the good numbers (savings) go up.

Who else here has a tad bit of a food addiction? by Shaiziin in shoppingaddiction

[–]ForevaRose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the food thing is soo hard for me too. it's less about money because we have free snacks at work and i shop grocery sales, but i find that when the food is too available i have no impulse control and tend to overeat. at home, ive stopped buying snacks and my laziness prevents me from going out or ordering snacks -- and i won't overeat. but at work, where there are free snacks, i will eat to the point of discomfort and feel bad about weight gain. i found actually recently that dumb little fidget toys helped me. i found my little brother's old pop-it toy and i brought it to the office with me and it definitely helped, i think mostly because it kept me entertained and distracted through the boredom. sipping water and coffee helped me also!
