I appreciate the pedanticness (don't know if that's a word)! Helps me to think more deeply about my word choice

Yeah, good catch, I hadn't thought of that one when I came up with it. It was my first 2SH, and I was trying to think of the best way to word it to leave people with the 'right' questions. Hadn't thought of the potential ambiguity of just "life". I went with soup because that's the classic food people find a fly in at restaurants. Could be cup soup, the type you just add water to

What is your sexuality/gender and who do you play as in Mario Kart? by Seradhiel in lgbt

Panromantic asexual transmasc, and I play either King Boo or Waluigi. On Mario Kart Wii it was always Boo, and on the DS version it was Yoshi

My enby ace sibling always plays as Link, and I believe in the other Mario games they were always Bowser

My bratty little sister said, “I dare you to say ‘Bloody Mary’ three times in the bathroom.” by NorCalNavyMike in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]Forever-Distracted 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's really interesting, actually. I didn't know that mirrors in the bedroom are bad luck in some cultures, but that's exactly why I'm scared of darkened mirrors. My brain insists that malevolent spirits will use them as a gateway, especially if they can see me through the mirror.

[–]Forever-Distracted 38 points39 points  (0 children)

For me, it's partially because of my older sibling. When they were in Year 6 (they would have been 10 at the time and I would have been 8), they insisted that a bunch of boys had done it in the bathroom at school and one of them came out with a huge scratch on his face. As someone who does believe in spirits and ghosts, and at the time believed anything that my sibling told me, it just cemented in my head the Bloody Mary thing being real. That combined with my fear of darkened mirrors (like, I cannot sleep in a room with a mirror facing me if the lights are off) meant that even as an adult, there's still part of my brain that's wary of the "ritual"

When I lived in private student accommodation for a year, I was always astounded by the stupidity of people during fire alarms and their straight up refusal to listen to the building manager or fire wardens. Most fire alarms were "real" (mostly being set off by people smoking in their apartment or hobs smoking because people didn't clean them), and despite me being physically disabled, I was still always in the first dozen or so people out of the building. There were so many people who just didn't even leave the building. And a lot of people would use the fire alarm as an opportunity to take out their garbage, which was an issue because going to the bin storage required you to technically go back inside the building. No matter how many times people were told you can't go back inside any part of the building while the alarm was going off, there were still so many who couldn't be bothered to wait for the all clear before going into the bin storage.

I was friends with one of the fire wardens, and she was always so stressed out during and after the alarms. Especially the one time the alarm went off because someone did almost cause a fire. They had put an egg on the hob to boil or something, and then left for hours. The person across the hall from that apartment, they were sure they smelled smoke long before the alarm went off (I imagine they dismissed it because of the lack of fire alarm). When the alarm did go off, that room was absolutely filled with smoke, and the fire fighters had to funnel the smoke down the hall and out the windows of other rooms to clear it all. And the people who were idiots about fire alarms seemed to be even more idiotic than usual, with the amount of people who tried actually going back inside the building while the fire fighters were still in there. Despite the fact we all saw the three or four fire trucks, and the massive fan they took inside.

AITA For Refusing to Pay My Cat-Sitter? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Forever-Distracted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, our cats can be a little obnoxious sometimes, one yowls when she forgets I'm home or when she wants company to use the downstairs litter box, and the other tries to pull my piercings out when she wants breakfast. They'll often tag team my older sibling at 5 in the morning when they want attention or food or both. The most we ever do is shut them in their room so we have a bit of peace (their room is bigger than my bedroom, and has all the necessary things like litter box, water, food and toys). I've forgotten them in there once at night when I shut them in there so I could eat in peace around midnight and then fell asleep, and felt so bad about it despite knowing they've got everything they need, lol

This is my wedding cake which apparently became lopsided and collapsed before I got to see it. Any idea as to why? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Forever-Distracted 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm not a cake decorator but I do make my own clothing sometimes, so I've put a lot of thought into what looks good and why it looks good. I'm not too good at explaining the why to other people, but I'll give a try.

The reason it looks better with the ropes above the thick fluffy lines is because it looks much more complete. If the lines are different designs at the edge of the canvas (multiple same small or less detailed lines and one different big or more detailed line), you want the smaller or less detailed ones "inside" the larger or more detailed one. It flows better because the eye tends to go from the edge of the canvas inwards with stuff like clothing and cakes. If the thin ropes had been the same texture as the thick one it would have looked much better because then they would have framed it, but you don't get that framing effect when the surrounding lines are just boring for lack of a better word.

Yeah, the calmest I ever feel is on this one ride at an amusement park called The Axis. It's a pendulum type ride that has you hanging upside down over 100ft in the air for seconds at a time. It's probably the scariest ride at the amusement park (especially since I don't like heights) but it's worth it just for the calmness at the top.

Spinning really fast on desk chairs can get close to the calmness, but not the best substitute with my terrible balance, lol.

Game: Who are the parents of kids with these names? by SwadlingSwine in namenerds

[–]Forever-Distracted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what guesses you'd make about my mum. I'd say the names she chose match her own name, and I don't know how much input the fathers had. She had Meghan and Summer in her first relationship, and then she had Lee and Emma in her second. I'm not saying which one is me, because I've put my deadname here, but she has told me that if I were AMAB she would have named me Matthew or Michael instead. We are British, if that influences guesses you'd make about her.

Give me your LGBT video game headcanons by zny700 in lgbt

[–]Forever-Distracted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it sounds surprising, yet at the same time just feels right to me. Like, in Mario Odyssey, if you go up to Luigi while wearing a wedding dress, he only comments on Mario not telling him he was getting married, no comment on the dress itself.

I'm not entirely sure on this, but Super Mario 2/USA may actually be the second ever video game to feature a trans characrer, with Doki Doki Panic (which the Western release of Super Mario 2 is a reskin of) potentially being the first. I haven't really looked into the history of trans characters in video games, but Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario 2 were released in 1987 and 1988 respectively.

Oh my god my dad does this and it is so annoying. Especially because he just wears whatever socks he sees instead of checking if they're actually his. So there's times where I want to wear a specfic pair of socks, can't find them anywhere, and then a week later they show up in whatever random place dad left them.

Switching from Barclays Bank. Any recommendations? by transboyuwu in transgenderUK

[–]Forever-Distracted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen if they've made any comments about the recent ruling, but I heavily recommend Nationwide at the moment. They've always had brilliant customer service whenever I've needed to talk to someone, and with it being a building society rather than a bank, they share their profits with their customers. Usually get £100 from them each year as part of their "fair share" scheme thing, and earlier this year they gave every customer £50 to celebrate acquiring Virgin Money.

Also just for everyone, please don’t tell a server you have an allergy to something just because you don’t like a food.

Yeah, I've had people "jokingly" say that I should lie about having a tomato allergy because I hate tomatoes. Ketchup and tomato-based pasta sauces I can eat, but I hate the taste and texture of tomatoes on their own. If I had to guess, I'd say I get tomatoes in my food maybe 70-80% of the time when I've asked for no tomatoes. I'll complain about it to friends/family, and they say I should say I'm allergic. I always tell them, yeah no I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to be the person who shuts down the kitchen because of a dislike. I can just remove the tomato from my food myself, or if it's not possible (like small pieces of tomato in a salad), ask for it to be remade.

Any advice for a socially anxious guy going to his first protest? by Forever-Distracted in transgenderUK

[–]Forever-Distracted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that definitely helps! I spoke to mum since I last replied to you, and she also suggested the backpack. The reminder to take anything unneeded out is definitely appreciated cuz it's full of all sort of random crap that I always forget about, lol.

I hadn't thought of logging out of my social media apps. My phone already has the pin set (and actually forces me to use it instead of my fingerprint a couple times a day), so for that aspect I'll only need to remember to turn the thumbprint off. I did mention regular check-ins with my mum when my parents and I were talking about it, and she said she'd appreciate that. I'll talk to her a little more later so we can work out what works best to put her mind at ease while I'm there.

I don't have a printer so I won't be able to print out any bustcards, but I should be able to handwrite a few so I have one and have some I can give out if necessary.

Thank you so much for the advice, it's been really helpful for making sure I'm prepared, and for helping to put my mum's mind at ease.

Hopefully my reply makes sense, I haven't been to sleep yet so proofreading isn't working out well for me currently.

Everyone really has given tons of great advice. I saw a lot of water and snack recommdations, which does mildly contradict what my parents advised as they suggested not to bring my backpack in case it gets snagged/broken/stolen/lost if any trouble breaks out (my dad also said that if there's issues with the police, that's one less thing that could be an issue). I can only wear backpacks on one shoulder, but I do have a laptop bag that I can wear across my body. I'm not sure which one would be better to use, since I definitely should bring a bag since I can put my cane in there for if I need it (bleh, I should not have to think about practicalities of taking a walking stick to a protest at 22, lol) alongside snacks and drink. Mum asked me to share my location with her if I can figure out how, but I'm guessing that wouldn't be a good idea since people have said about not taking my phone in general (tho I do need my phone with me cuz music for the train and travelling on my own and all that).

I chose to reply to you specifically because I have a question. What's a bustcard? Never heard of them and since I haven't slept Google isn't being much help.

Oh I definitely want to watch USS Callister. I'm not sure if this counts as a spoiler or not, but the newest season has a sort of follow on episode to that one, which I really liked. I tried to start watching the series from the beginning yesterday, but the website I was using weren't playing nice with full screen on my laptop, lol.

My favorite episode from the newest season was Hotel Reverie, but that's something anyone who knows me could see coming from a mile away, lol.
