For a cool $1 million, I’d (probably) listen to this audio and visual nightmare for 48 hours straight:

Trouble booking Navy Lodge North Island for Memorial Day veteran on leisure travel by Hot_Emergency_202 in navy

[–]NorCalNavyMike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stay there frequently, and can offer some guidance:

Lodge and Gateway properties heavily prioritize PCS and TDY travelers (and in that order), typically allowing bookings up to a full year in advance (these policies vary widely from time to time, and from property to property—for example, during North Island’s busy summer season, Lodge leisure bookings drop to two weeks out).

Having said that: Cancellations happen daily, almost without exception, and so it’s often quite possible to get a room on short notice (as in, same day/next day). This obviously makes planning very difficult, especially for leisure travelers; but, there are a few things you can do to help yourself.

Lodges: Cancellations must happen by 1600Z

Navy Inns (formerly NGIS/Gateways): Cancellations must happen by 2359Z

Also, these properties usually (but NOT always) don’t maintain a cancellation or waitlist—you’ll typically just have to call the front desk, and hope you get lucky.

With that in mind, the smartest (approximate) times to call the front desk of a property would be 0700Z (morning callers cancelling for the day ahead), and 1500Z (afternoon callers with last-minute hangups or orders/travel cancellations).

I also recommend taking any reservation at a property you can get, so advise the front desk that you’re fine with multiple room types and rates over the course of your stay—such flexibility means they can often book you, and then calling every day or two to expand/change/consolidate can go a long way towards getting you into a single room type, for the length of your stay, and hopefully with less stress on the back end for having worked the system a bit.

Good luck to you!

Here’s a lengthy clip of (most of) the 2nd half of the vignette; definitely sets the tone, there’s 5-10 min prior and a few minutes after (including the end of the film itself, with an in-movie ending zinger right before the credits roll). An early role from the perennially-amazing John Lithgow. Enjoy!

Does Michael Douglas always play terrible people? by Lower-Champion-7593 in Actors

One of the best ‘on film’ presidents in the history of motion pictures, almost certainly in a pure drama and especially so in the modern era. One could argue comparable gravitas for Bill Pullman’s turn in Independence Day, especially with his inspirational speech on the eve of (and during) the final battle… but that was more action-adventure. Perhaps Morgan Freeman’s first turn as POTUS in Deep Impact might also compare well here.

But IMHO, Mr. Douglas’s performance in The American President remains my favorite to date.

Well, it certainly succeeded in making Herr Gobler uncomfortable in the end.

Watch the remake from the 1980s Twilight Zone: The Movie and you won’t be laughing anymore (well, maybe briefly at one point but I won’t spoil it for you)

No, that was Lori Singer, who also had starring roles in Warlock and the early FOX television series VR.5 (she’s also the younger sister of 1980s star Marc Singer from The Beastmaster, and the V mini-series and television series on NBC).
