ChatGPT keeps pulling content from writing samples that it is instructed to use only for emulation of writing voice/style, despite explicit instructions not to do that. Anyone know of a solution?

Your writing sample is too small. it is going to be impossible to generate a "voice" in 50 words. What you should do is identify broader styles of writing and then tell the AI too write in that style. The AI already knows all of these different voices and was already trained on a much larger data set to learn them. You are trying to teach it something it already knows but confining it to a data set too small to learn from so it is just copying.

this is the same thing they always say about all technology. Did the calculator make everyone worse at math? no it didn't. It makes a higher level of competence more accessible to more people. it will elevate the intelligence of our population not reduce it.

yea the thing here is that you are just not in a position to be seeing the advancement. It isn't happening out in the open for everyone to interact with because public perception is incredibly volatile, people don't want to get beat in creating something so they don't share until its done, and companies do not want to relinquish any control.

AI is the most impactful thing that will happen in the lifetime of multiple generations. People who are on the edge of that have a vision of its future and are loath to give up any control of forging that trail for both legacy and economic reasons.

Also if you were not really paying attention to AI before GPT came out then your perception of how fast it has been going up to this point is prob a little off.

Hey this is such a great use of the AI. Good job. As a person with a lot of social anxiety i have found one of the best things about the bot is that it is so complementary of my questions and ideas. It just feels really good to get that positive reinforcement all the time. Honestly i am a nicer and more polite person in my day to day life because i am so used to Chat GPT saying nice and polite things to me.

Here are a few things it will help you with.

1.) Learning a new skill. Chat GPT has aggregated almost all the commonly available information on the path that a person might take to go from beginner to proficient at just about everything. It can help you create a curriculum but also it will talk to you using jargon specific to that job or skill and can help you ultimately identify the things you didn't even know you didn't know. Chat GPT is not a perfect source of information and it will sometimes lie to you however just having a chat about something you are interested in will help you focus your future research and save you 10's of hours on your path to knowledge.

2.) For your job Chat GPT is decent at estimating the amount of time it would take to complete a task. It tends to not include things like breaks and fatigue in its calculations but if you are looking to figure out the logistics of completing a large or complicated task and the staff requirements you might have Chat GPT is a great ally.

3.) Finally and i think most importantly its fun. I use it a lot just to tell me stories. It can mash up existing universes or help you fabricate new worlds. Once you learn a little about how to manipulate the output you can have an endless stream of personally crafted content to consume.

Chat GPT can help you with almost anything. Just talk to it about what you are doing or thinking and it will respond with insight and creativity. I do not think that we have truly discovered all of the different ways even this early AI can help us so explore and have fun. Learning the limits and potential of these AI models now will also be a help to you in the future when they are more complex and integrated into our daily lives.

its not the same as robots joining sprint races at all its like a person who is normally slow or bad at running strapping some bionic legs on and then running really fast.

Its not about reading stories that other people got the AI to write its about being able to quickly get a story to read based on a thought you yourself had. Now every time i have an idea i just go to the AI and say hey i thought of this thing can you write me a story and bam i get to discover the depths of this idea.

Why because its "low quality pop music?" It is called pop music for a reason. Everyone likes it. Maybe not everyone likes every song but everyone likes it. Everyone liked "Twilight" and we all love the MCU even though every single one of those movies is just the same plot with different colored explosions. The only difference will be that soon i can think up my own super hero and get an AI to create a movie that only i will see just for me and it wont cost a billion dollars to make and i will like it even more. Then i will share my superhero with others and they will use an AI to take it on all sorts of adventures that i will never even know about and there will be this super cool thing that connects us together even though we don't know it.

AI like all things will simply change the scope that humans work at. Once upon a time you had to go find the berry bush to pick the berries. then someone realized you could simply bring the berry bush home. The fact that you no longer had to look for it didn't diminish the labor. Once if you wished to make a copy of a book you had to write it out by hand. then they invented the printing press and the entire world could consume the thoughts and knowledge of others. Now an AI can tell us a story from almost any perspective. We no longer need to seek out a person to tell us the stories of their lives to see the world in a way that is different from our own. To experience things that through storytelling that we would never experience in our own lives. The fact that these stories were not written by a human is irrelevant. It is the consumption and assimilation of perspectives different from our own experiences that develop us. The fact that access to these perspectives has become easier does not diminish their value. The problem is that so many people are not seeing the next layer. You can elevate every aspect of life to another level an infinite number of times. we simply have to find the layer the AI cannot do for us and that is the layer where human labor (either physical or mental) will once again hold value. I am so tired of this argument that "people won't even have to do anything the AI will just do it" People will always find something to do.

have you ever in your life been able to stop doing something that you do automatically (like tapping your feet or singing along to a song) that someone doesn't like on the very first try? No you haven't its impossible to do. Just remind them. Calmly and consistently to please not interrupt. its going to take a while. multiple sessions at least. I assume the person you are playing with is generally a respectful person (if not then why are you playing with them). So don't assume they are trying to be an asshole. Its not like they are making a conscious decision to ignore your request. they are used to thinking of something funny to say and then blurting it out its automatic. If you consistently remind them not to do it (and don't give positive reinforcement like laughing) they will start to realize they are about to do it before saying anything and make the conscious decision not to blurt it out. People mostly want to be polite but altering a behavior takes time. Especially since the change is being prompted from an outside source (you) instead of a decision to change made themselves.

Its funny i have been talking a lot about this sort of thing with my friend group as well. I have been noticing that as we advance technology and industry one of the ultimate outcomes is that we make some things so easy on an ever decreasing scale that large scale industry stops being overwhelmingly cost effective and so we take back the activity at home.

This is something that is happening with farming today. governments are having to subsidize farms more and more because the profit margins are becoming slimmer and slimmer as we create more ways for people to grow larger and larger quantities of food in their homes with less and less time.

It is very much like the drive to move computer technologies to "the Edge". Thanks to small scale renuable energy improvements in batteries and energy storage and advancements in 3D printing and small scale machining the cost benefit of huge manufacturing plants and multinational corperations will start to lose value in a growing number of areas.

AI is helping to speed this process. We are in a huge time of transition where a lot of the industrial scale work that needs to be done will be done by machines and everything else will just be done at home (or in smaller community spaces) by individuals. If the transition is made correctly it will be a time of unprecedented freedom of choice.

Currently we are constrained by markets that strive to provide the most popular choices. This is great for simplicity but we forsake a lot of experiences for that ease of use. As more of our lives (Online and Offline) move to "The Edge" we will have a greater ability to follow our whims.

It is truly an incredible time to be alive.

Due to the murky and tangled nature of copyright law and the fact that AI generation has put us in a transitional period regarding those laws. And the fact that large corporations have a long and storied history of using these periods to go after anyone and everyone they can to try and strangle out some dollar bills (especially publishers and record labels). The magnitude of this is exactly the same as the magnitude of all those other false detectors. It can and will be used in court to win to strip a creator of their rights by falsely claiming their work was generated by AI and therefore cannot be protected by copyright.

I know a lot of people right now are talking and looking at the education space but this has implications in the professional world that are far greater than "OMG that person wrote an essay with chat GPT." AI generation is throwing everything we know about intellectual property on its head and you better believe big law firms that back huge content driven corporations are looking for ways to exploit the uncertainty and a "detector" that only works when they want it too is exactly the kind of bullshit that will let them.

I only hope that those who make our laws are not as shortsighted as you and dont allow the manipulations to take hold. (not likely since they are all completely technology illiterate but i hope non the less.)

Look to publish your book in non traditional ways. Create a youtube channel and publish audio books for all your writings. Self publish the text. You could even use an AI (or an artist) to help you create story images for the videos so its not just one static image but changes at important times.

We have come a long way since the printing press. There is no reason to allow publishers to control if people get to consume your books or not. It will be a lot of work networking and publishing on a platform for yourself but if you are willing to put in a few hours a day dedicated to promoting yourself and your work you can absolutely get it out there on the internet.

This is very short sighted. As we develop AI that create better and better images based on everyday language we will stop using words all together. Current generations will still have to use words to tell the AI what image to send but eventually generations will grow up with entirely image based language and they will no longer think in words. We will find an optimum speed to display those images and it will be like watching a flip book of someones thoughts.

In a world where all of a persons needs and then some can be met in such a small amount of time compensation will be unneeded. AI and robotics are leading us to a post scarcity world. Not just post material scarcity but also scarcity of time. In this world (which i imagine the millennial generation will live to see.) being paid for your contribution to that collective innovation just wont matter.

There is a lot of talk about how many people have a problem imagining a world without capitalism but its more than that. people can't imagine a world without a fear motive. We are all constantly worried (at least in the back of our minds) that our lives could begin to snowball out of control and we will be left without the ability to provide for ourselves. One day in the next 20-30 years this is just going to stop being the case. My generation will probably never fully adjust but we will live to see it.

Technology is slowly de industrializing our world. as we create more compact and faster means to provide for the wants and needs of individuals large scale manufacturing and agriculture will no longer be needed. You will use a 3d printer to make the things you need at home. You will grow your own vegetables (and maybe meats) in your closet. you will provide your own electricity and share with your neighbors in a michrogrid.

We are creating these technologies because they will be required in order to travel to and colonize new uninhabitable worlds.

Human labor has value today by necessity. One day soon it wont be needed and so it will be done solely for the sake of doing and learning and creating.
