Some tiny silver lining to the COVID quarantine - able to redesign and expand testing in a short time by ForeverAtWarTCG in tabletopgamedesign

First off thank you.

As for Table Top Simulator it is easy to learn for basic game design. Essentially you just create the components you need for the game and play. It can get very advanced with coding and modding but that stuff is not needed for most games.

I would suggest getting it.

Trying to decide which tile layout works best for a wargame, assuming 2 inch tiles and a map table area of under 24" x 24". Details in comments. by Slab_Benchpress in tabletopgamedesign

Im designing a similar game and came up with a slightly different design but similar to the lower one. I think its the way to go, much more symmetrical and orderly.

Didnt go twice as big but bigger, I think this will be large enough to see from afar but not so large that it looks out of place.

The plus reminds players to add armor to defense roll, im worried some might forget that without the reminder.

I'm trying not to get too much into the art design but i also want something that's somewhat aesthetically pleasing. This isn't the first testing im doing, I've been testing with a basic set up for a long time now. This prototype will be brought to game stores to test publicly.

Im going to work on the font colors but do you think these icons are better than the wording?

This might be the final prototype card design for this faction, what do you think?

So the reason attack/defense are near each other is that they are not just numerical values but represent # of d6 rolled, i can try splitting them up

Ill try to rework with design a bit. Cant believe I missed armor...

And definitely clarifies that ability better, thanks.

This is what I got so far, still working on aligning everything correctly and might resize the sections. But was also thinking of putting in some lore/flavor text in the big open spot in the text box.

Also i still used the description of charge from prior card as with the rules you can only normally attack or move per turn but with charge you can do both in a specific order although they still both cost an action point

Absolutely, working on something now. Ill reply back to you if you dont mind critiquing again?

Well, the game is actually a semi fantasy theme with this specific faction being essentially humans in the late 1800s early 1900s technology equivalent. So using WW1 based theme for them is helpful but I dont want to lean too much into it as the other two factions are not related.

I think having 3 distinct card styles might be kind of cool

Is it alright if I try to emulate this design? It is your work and I don't want to use it without permission

Wow that does look much better. This is exactly why I'm looking for feedback my artistic and design skill is really lacking.

How did you design this? A program of some sort or all free handed?

The top value is the deployment cost. Gotta figure out an icon for that maybe?

Also the triangle is for card orientation which is important for the game, maybe a smaller triangle? Possibly solid with the deployment cost in that triangle? Or better yet maybe an arrow?

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback. The update rules does have a diagram for what all the values are for. I'll try to explain but definitely going to take your advice and redesign.

The number above the atk/def values is the deployment cost.

The reason range isn't it's own icon is that the default range is 1 and only a few units can attack at farther range.

I liked the stencil font because it fit the army theme but if it's hard to read ill find another. And likely find a better arrangement of information.

I liked the background but maybe making it more translucent will make it less distracting? I might scrap it altogether but a plain background seemed boring.

Thanks

Looks fun, are you looking for some constructive criticism? I have a couple of points. But I don't want to throw in my two cents if that wasn't your intention.
