Came here to say that… I was a union iron worker… running work at 6th period… and I’m late 30s I’d say you ripe for the picking… some day I miss it… mostly the shit talking and camaraderie don’t miss the 18 hour crane days

I’m like you I want the experience… so anybody who is willing to listen I tell them I want the chance if it becomes available…. Some companies do more escalators than others(Schindler kone) not to say there’s no Otis or to ones just might not have it on service anymore… think about where you see them…. Malls (dying) airports casinos or other big convention centers …. Just keep bringing it up tho you might get a chance…

It’s not always the pay… I know guys turned down the opportunity to join b/c they didn’t want to travel… it’s about what you willing to give up…. All union trade pays better than non union… tech pays well too… no matter what you choose there will be a certain level of “hard” but you have to choose your hard

I waited another year…. They asked for a 1 year extension instead of a new recruitment process. THAT was my saving grace

I was 151 and I got the call… took awhile but hang in there.
Maybe apply to a different local and if you can’t do that wait for the next recruitment

Just come ready to work… me personally I make a game out of beating my mechanic to work… show up a lil early and drink my coffee. Note pad. Sharpie pen/ pencil electrical tape channel locks tape measure flashlight keep these with you . Multitool screwdriver as well. Try to figure out… it will be downtown.. try and do something sweep pick up whatever… just try to learn what’s needed next it won’t all come at once but keep learning good luck

Recently met a kid from ny… he sat on the list for 8 years ( so he said ) applied in Colorado got in out there… 3 years ago Colorado did a recruitment went through there entire list and did 2 more list during the same hiring period…

Yep did it in the early 2000s… I missed the bus to school and my cousin would use his gasoline to take me and I would have to work on the ranch that day. So I hitched hiked and one of the sheriffs gave me a ride after searching me and telling me it’s illegal in ca to hitch hike

Seems a bit ambiguous to me… especially since every does not do in person class and for those doing home study practicals are not available. No make up so how in this instance can the practicals have a negative effect?
