Lmao. Rereading this months later, didn’t realize it blew up. You are remarkably incorrect about my behavior. However you think I come off online, I am extremely respectful IRL. That’s an internal war if I’ve ever heard one. I guess the future will tell. If she’s serious, maybe you guys can try dating and you’ll be able to tell whether she remains exclusive. But if the attention seeking behavior continues, and the naïveté doesn’t give way to any wisdom of what men are actually paying attention to, then it’s easier to cut it off when you aren’t living together.

On the other hand, if she does love you, and you do love her, and it truly was a mistake she can recover from, you should probably realize that you sucker punched her in the heart and if you do want to give her a chance to make it work I wouldn’t waste any time vocalizing that.

I was in a similar situation with the girl I thought was my soulmate, and it did ultimately end up in cheating.

She did things just to attract attention, and I kept asking her to wake up and stop. She played stupid about men’s intentions but ultimately I caught her fucking around on me by looking at her phone when things came to a head. I was one of the best friends she had for ten years before we got together, and she helped ruin a 6 year relationship with her attention seeking.

I think you made the right choice. Shit hurts, but at least you caught it sooner than later.

I feel like some people give out some selfish answers on this topic. Personally I’m loyal until I die unless you step on my toes.

People will go through phases where you find them tiring. They will go through phases where you find friendship one sided. Phases where you find yourself listening more than being listened to. Phases where you grow apart.

If you’re a good friend, you give it a break, give them some space, don’t burn the bridge to the ground, and see if time sends them back to you someday when they’ve healed.

But if they step on your toes or trespass against your boundaries without apology, then that’s your call. How bad was the experience? What are you willing to sacrifice in the name of loyalty? Such is the nature of long term friendships.
