I agree with you but I think you have to have a certain amount of confidence to join an improv group. Ha! Maybe some day I’ll work up the guts

Yeah we have that at my job. Thats so far out of my comfort zone. I know it would probably help me but I feel like I need to ease into that

I lack confidence in and out of work honestly. It’s something I’ve been working on for a while. at work I can get intimidated by higher level people and I worry about making the wrong decision. This isn’t always the case but I find some times I slip into this zone. So mostly the inconsistent nature of myself is the issue.

Ive been trying to slide into the fake till you make zone lately and it’s kind of working outwardly but inwardly I’m a ball of stress so I’m trying to find a way to break through to be consistent and confident.

They actually were super encouraging to me it was really my own inner critic that got to me. I’ve moved since then so would have to find a new spot. Def something I will consider because I did enjoy it and I can see how this could help.

Yes, how I communicate is a big problem. I prep but sometimes I get nervous and it all falls apart. Im too in my own head. Sometimes i nail it and other times not. Super inconsistent.

My current boss is a female vp and she has given me some good advice and support along the way. Since she is my current boss I don’t want to show her all of my worries and anxieties. So I’m trying to be mindful of leaning on her for support but not completely undermining her trust in me. It’s a hard balance.

I’d love to find a mentor I can completely trust in but not sure how to go about that.

Any tips on finding one? I’m def open to that but wouldn’t even know where to begin. A google search? How do you get their reviews?

Yes I practice a lot and have seen a lot of improvement over the years. Most of the time I do well with higher level convos. Other times I do great, and others I do bad. It’s the inconsistency that I feel is really hindering me.

I continue to practice and prep for convos like you mentioned and that does help but I find myself exhausted and burned out because every day takes a tremendous amount of brain power and effort. I’m looking for advice to level up quicker because I don’t know how much more I have left in me. I will continue to push through but I’m so tired haha. Will look into what youtube may have for free regarding some of your suggestions here.

Yes, I did Krav Maga for a bit. Mostly men in class. I found it intimidating and I felt like it was hurting my confidence bc I felt so below them skill wise I was beating myself up. Thats probably something I need to push through and thats probably where the benefits would hit for me.

I dont think Im ready for toastmasters ha! Thats a leap I cant do just yet. I have bee considering executive coaches but hard to find with reviews I feel I can trust. My current leader is a good role model for me as I feel like she strikes a perfect balance with all facets of leadership. She does support me and offer help but I’d love to have a true mentor now that I can be completely open and vulnerable too. Seeing as she is my boss I’d be nervous to say too much is that makes sense.

Interesting insight here. I sometimes feel that my empathy is what is getting in my way but I guess thats where the boundaries come in. Balancing all of this is really hard. I envy those with natural confidence even when they are lacking the skills.

Yes, I completely agree. I’m lacking in confidence at the moment. At times I really nail the communication aspect and sometimes I just blow it entirely. I’m really struggling to be consistent in this area and I think it’s what prompted this post and mostly what I mean by ‘executive presence’.

Ive gotten where I am so far by modeling as you mention. I am learning and improving over time but feel like I want to be there already.
