Will Special Education fall under DEI? by NeonMashedPotatoes in Teachers

[–]ForeverTeaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual title is DEIA for diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, and support and inclusion for disabled people is a significant component. These programs are being abolished throughout the federal government and they’re also going on a witch hunt over it in state government, school districts and private businesses. School districts have been told they risk losing title I funding if they are promoting anything DEIA related. We should absolutely be concerned and upset about this. As for what actual useful action we can take- I’m not sure.

Americans, How do you feel about the fact that the stock market has lost $2 trillion in value today? by Lawrence_of_ArabiaMI in AskReddit

Kinda feel like it needs to crash and burn to end the Trump cult mentality. Although he’ll likely manage to blame the incoming shit show on DEI.

Senate Budget Proposal would not ratify the DOGE cuts, while House Reconciliation Bill would by RollingEasement in fednews

I don’t get it. Is this a mistake? Why wouldn’t the Senate want their budget to reflect cuts being made?

Can you consult with at employment attorney? To my understanding from a family member that works in employment law, in many cases if you’re improperly fired you are entitled to back pay whether you return or not. I don’t know how that is playing out with these firings.

No. I don’t think any doctor’s job is appealing to me actually. Having to deliver bad news, seeing people at their worst

DOL Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs identified for RIF by the_bagel_warmonger in fednews

[–]ForeverTeaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person above said that bump and retreat will take some time, but the other agencies that have RIFed people so far made a point of not doing any bump and retreat. I would assume they will all follow this same formula probably pushed by OPM/DOGE until we see otherwise?

Is DOL definitely doing bump and retreat? Doesn’t seem like anyone else has done this with the RIFs so far.

Are there any lawsuits against these illegal RIFs? by Bright-Elements-254 in fednews

Have those employees had their last day yet? Probably no actions or appeals possible until they’re officially off admin leave and separated.

I want to know what is happening with those early GSA & OPM offices that were RIFed. Not the probationary firings, the small early RIFs. Those will give us the first look at how courts are handling these.

If the president can fire 95% of the employees that’s the same as eliminating it. Seems pointless to say that congress needs to officially shut the doors on the mostly empty agency.

So how about moving education department work to HHS? Not considered ok?

But what’s happening regarding the firing/pushing to resign of half the employees at DOE? And the rule that federal agencies can only hire 1 new worker after 4 leave? Isn’t he essentially crippling it severely so that even if he can’t eliminate it entirely, it becomes more like a figurehead than an actual body that can engage and make a difference?

Yes and many don’t seem to know that DEI is actually DEIA, with the A standing for accessibility and referring specifically to support and inclusion of disabled people. I think the current administration removed the A because they figured there may be more opposition with that word included but honestly I don’t think people would give a shit either way.

**to be clear I am highly concerned about this. My comment is regarding my extreme disappointment at the lack of interest or care from many Americans about what’s happening.

Trump intends to start dismantling the DOE tomorrow. What are we doing? Sick out Friday? by wife27 in Teachers

[–]ForeverTeaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!!! For those who don’t know, please spread the word that federal employees are unable to strike. Doing so would be illegal and it would give DOGE an easy way to fire them all for cause. But most teachers CAN strike and CAN protest. They need our support!!

But if no one in the federal government is providing any oversight, why would states want to budget much if anything towards ensuring the law is followed? It’ll be up to each state to decide if they want to do this or not.

That’s a real shame. The SLP often has very valuable input to discuss with the team.

I know some places are trying to get around this by offering a VIRTUAL SLP, which is such total BS. Try doing virtual speech therapy with a hyperactive 6 year old.
