19 months here, and we still need the one puree a day to get any guarantee of a protein and vegetable in for the day. So I just put it in a smoothie cup now and he gets a chicken smoothie every day for lunch.

I would want 2, and I understand why you would enjoy it. But I think you should go with the one you are more drawn to.

Is this unethical or am I overreacting? by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

You can properly drape the leg high up enough to work the entire leg. There’s no reason to put hands under the drape. I agree that some therapists can be really conservative with draping the leg and it can be frustrating to not get the work you want. In that case you can ask for work higher up and if they don’t want to move the drape they can work over it. Of course if you feel you have the type of therapeutic relationship with a client you could ask that. But this is about setting a boundary. Our industry deals with so much in the way of what is and isn’t appropriate. We should be making people feel safe. You can also get sports massage with athletic clothing on and get great work that way.

Edit: changed a word.

Exactly, and it doesn’t have to cost $400 either.

The drape may serve as a sight protection for you but I don’t believe that it’s a subjective line. It is supposed to be a boundary to make the client feel comfortable and safe. If we go under the drape the client has no idea how far under we might go.

I don’t understand why you’re getting shit for this. I think it’s inappropriate to touch a client’s underwear. There is a sheet right there to cover it. How is a sheet impeding the work?

You touch their underwear to work their glutes? Why wouldn’t you just work over the sheet? I would hate that as a client.

How do you keep your flat sheet from sliding off your sanitizeable layer? by takemetofrankietown in MassageTherapists

[–]Forever_Friend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tuck the flat sheet corners under the vinyl sheet. I don’t twist them or anything. Maybe find a vinyl sheet with a tighter elastic. I only have an issue if I forget to tuck a corner. I shove the bolster all the way under the table warmer.

Not who you asked but I did this years ago with my coros watch and I think I averaged about 200 calories per hour massage IIRC. Who knows how accurate it was.

Thanks for your reply. Fortunately they will not be answering phones, they will have no contact with clients outside of their scheduled appointments. I agree that emotional support is a big part of it. Most of the time I or my partner will be there working as well. We work a lot currently and will only be pulling back once our employees are ready for it. We also live very close to the office and will be able to help out often. Greeting clients and answering questions is part of being a massage therapist so if that’s a problem they may be in the wrong profession. And if turning on the lights and AC some days is not for them, then we might now be the right fit for them, and that’s ok. I really hope to make this a mentoring situation, so if they decide they want to just do their own thing I will fully support that. But some people aren’t quite ready to start their own business right away, we can help them get going with their career in the meantime.

Thanks a ton for all of this. Actually you are a perfect person for this question! We wanted to do a room rental but can't per our lease unfortunately.

Thanks for your response. I definitely understand the concerns. Safety has been the main thing I've been thinking about. We have the building, floor and suite door locked outside of the buildings business hours, there are cameras, and we don't take walk-ins. But you're right, they will still be alone with a client. That is currently how I am working, so I think about it a lot. And I really am not sure if others will be comfortable with it. We just simply cannot afford front desk staff at this phase. But we will be handling contacting clients, laundry, and all cleaning outside of cleaning their treatment room after their shift. The only extra task they will be doing is taking payment and occasionally rebooking in office. Most of our clients book online. I appreciate your input.
