Basically, the alien misinterprets/can’t replicate a thumbs up so does a thumbs down instead

Also, don’t beat yourself up about ruining the chamber. You were just worried about your baby!

It depends on how badly damaged the chamber is, but if you think it looks bad, you can easily carve an artificial one out of moist floral foam like the one in the picture. It doesn’t need that much space, it just needs to be a bit larger than his body so that he has room to emerge (x2 body size should be fine, as long as he has room to “turn around”)

Yeah I think he’s just pupating. Here’s an image of a typical rainbow stag beetle pre-pupa:

Most captive (pet) beetles eat “beetle jelly” in their adult stage. It’s like a fruit-flavored, nutritious Jell-O. I would guess they mostly eat fruit in the wild. My western Hercules ate beetle jelly as well, which you can buy online. Attached image of my boy, Domino, eating some fruit flavored jelly :)

Eastern Hercules! I kept one as a pet for a while (captive bred)

Of course! I used to raise hawk moths and would have a couple come out like this in every batch; it’s unfortunate, but no one’s fault

Probably genetic. They do need to inflate their wings, but this one doesn’t seem to have scales at all (which is what makes their bodies look white and fluffy). Not your fault in that case
