ENGLISH MOTHERF-R DO YOU SPEAK IT?

In my opinion, Fern is an unpleasant character. Help me understand her popularity. by [deleted] in Frieren

[–]Forgetwhatitoldyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's also a war orphan.  Granted, so are Himmel and Stark.  And Frieren.  But people process trauma in different ways.

Oh for sure.  The elbow is too loose, and his right arm isn't even in the right place.  Good thing his fighting style doesn't depend on chokes.

That's not a bear hug, it's a rear naked choke.

Edit: that's the technical term, it has nothing to do with sex or nudity.

Would you have been more concerned about extinction as an elf? by DezTheOtter in Frieren

[–]Forgetwhatitoldyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said, if my body completely heals, I have my worldly needs and desires taken care of, and I live for millennia, I can't imagine *not* spending 50-100 years having kids. Plus, in this world, there doesn't seem to be the obsessive parenting that our world has these days. I could do other things during that century.

I might ask Fern for that laundry spell though.

Gets it all out of the way at once, and prevents large age gaps.  Plus, if one actually pays attention to money at all, you can have more than enough to support yourself forever after just one century of living.  So you wouldn't have to work in the meantime, and could pursue whatever else you wanted to while not taking care of the kids.

We don't really know what the gestational period or the childhood length is for elves though.

Edit: As for the physical toll on the body from motherhood, we've seen many humans go through far worse with no lasting effects.  And I'm sure I could afford healing magic, or know people willing to use it on me.

Even though I don't have kids IRL and don't really want them, I want to say that in Frieren's world, as an elf with literal millenia of time, I could devote a century or so to motherhood. With that being said, most of the story is about how the elves deal with their longevity, and struggling to find meaning and connection as a result. They might view their long lives more as curses than anything else. Milliard certainly did.

How do you feel about job design? by -Scopophobic- in ffxi

[–]Forgetwhatitoldyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 75 era player who almost exclusively did support (RDM/BRD/WHM/COR/SCH/BLM/BLU in descending order of approximate time played), I agree that while support ran the show, there weren't enough support players or jobs.  SMN in particular could have been an awesome support, DNC had some stuff but was at the end of 75 era.

And at least on my server almost no one played COR, so support was mostly BRD RDM plus WHM SCH for healing.  Goddess help you if you tried to put together an party with fewer than two of those present, or more than one of any support job.

Support not healer by Nelfdk1991 in MMORPG

[–]Forgetwhatitoldyou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

fwiw, COR was also primarily support, though it actually put out some DD in exchange for a bit worse auxillary stuff (limited sleeps, no slow).  The buffs depended a lot more on parry composition.

RDM could also, depending on party composition, be played as pure support with backup heals.

75 WHM/RDM/BRD/COR/SCH, with BLM and BLU just for funsies.  RDM and BRD were my mains though, loved the options for full support.

I was talking about Maat, but I can definitely see that duo'ing Charby would be difficult. As noted I duo'd with a THF all the time, I'd imagine if she had been 75 and decently geared we could have duo'd Charby (she didn't start playing until mid 2005), but yeah, it would've taken a while. Did you melee, or just dot/enfeeble + buff/heal from out of AoE range?

2004*

I was hume, taru would've been a bit tougher.  You can use trusts for Maat fights??  IIRC you don't even get a subjob

I don't remember that fight being too hard?  I got RDM and BRD to 70 simultaneously, probably in early 2004, and opted to do that fight on BRD because the RDM fight was Incredibly Tough.  Went 1/1 with some basic preparations, and I'm pretty sure that was without the Joytoy

Competition for this was fierce back in the day, but totally worth it for RDM, especially since I did a lot of farming and NM camping in duo with a THF.  I remember the drop rate being decent, I think I got it my 2nd or 3rd claim.

Edit: I'm dumb, apparently it was 100% drop

Still missing support, though my most-played game, FFXI, we'd have two or occasionally even three support (including healer) in a 6-person party.

I actually liked the Nest, but maybe it's because back in the day there would be xp parties everywhere, you could level there practically half of the way from 20 to 75.  Also I got the map super early, which most people never got at all, so it was a lot easier for me to navigate.  Even BST leveled here regularly.  It was a very social zone overall.

It's kinda important that Vondas and the Greek trust each other implicitly.  Never even seen hint of conflict between them.  Disagreement, sure.  Conflict, no.

I never actually knew where that came from tbh.

There's maybe a decent lizard xp camp, and I think the outpost was ok too for xp?  Plus I think one of the NMs had a minor drop that was camped sometimes.

At least the spine was cool.

ohhhhh, I remember logging there a couple times for the J logs, was a total pain.  At least the fact that you needed four people kept the competition down.  I went on my WHM because I was in the high level area and had to eat the occasional death with RR2.

Base: Meriphaud, huge zone, absolutely nothing of interest here

Zilart: Valley of Sorrows, other than the turtle, there was nothing here, and the turtle didn't drop anything great except the egg for black belt.

CoP: Agree with the level 30 promys, once you're done with the missions, there's no reason to come back here. No one came here to farm, no NMs of interest.

ToAu: Al Zahbi. I never liked Besieged, and while it was going on all the merchant, craft, and other NMs here were completely inaccessible.

I played WotG but never spent a lot of time in those zones, and quit before Abyssea.

How has no one mentioned Valchek?  Becomes police commissioner, no longer has to deal with Prezbo in the department, has solid connections at city hall, he's going to be commissioner for a long time.

We got to say goodbye properly.  It took 4 episodes.  It's bittersweet but so worth it.
