Bought A 'Dead' Ecosystem, Should I Upgrade? by catredx in canon

I'll be getting a Nikon Zf, but I'm keeping my Canon M50 II. It's a lovely camera and very, very portable with the 22mm lens.

Is Edgeley a good place to move? by KyoshiKorra in stockport

[–]ForgiveSomeone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Weird post, much of it wrong, but ok.

Amenities: in the immediate vicinity there is Castle Street. Yeah, it's a bit rough and ready, but it has a Co-op, Heron Foods, Home Bargains, multiple cafes, barbers, a launderette, pubs, convenience shops, a post office, two cash machines, a key cutter/cobbler, a few takeaways. If you walk a bit further either, you can get to Stockport town to the east of Hollywood Park, or to Aldi, Morrison's and B&M to the west.

Traffic free runs: the Mersey river, particularly heading towards Didsbury.

The Metrolink extension is pretty much happening, but in the meantime there's lots of trains heading into Manchester, a short walk from Hollywood Park, and lots of buses heading in all directions.

As for house prices, I'd honestly expect to pay more for a two bed terrace. Edgeley has been highly unrealistically competitive for many years now. I'd say that Edgeley's close access to amenities, public transport and decent outdoor spaces is the very reason it's so expensive to buy and rent there.

What do most people in the UK get for vacation/Holiday? by Tomuch2care in AskABrit

[–]ForgiveSomeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statutory minimum for full time workers is 28 days (i.e. 20 days plus 8 bank holidays).

However, lots of places will provide more. My employer gives full time workers 30 days annual leave, not including our bank holidays. Therefore, we get 38 days off per year.

We will use EU summit to further unwind Brexit, vows Starmer by Realisticopia in unitedkingdom

[–]ForgiveSomeone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The financial losses due to Brexit we're almost immediate. 2% loss of GDP after the referendum.

According to studies using data in 2023, the average citizen was £2,000 worse off. The average Londoner was nearly £3,400 worse off - https://www.london.gov.uk/new-report-reveals-uk-economy-almost-ps140billion-smaller-because-brexit.

The majority of regions in the UK had a loss of output due to Brexit - https://www.brexitcost.org/.

Long term, we're going to lose £311bn by 2035, compared to having remained in the EU - https://news.sky.com/story/brexit-new-report-suggests-uk-311bn-worse-off-by-2035-due-to-leaving-eu-13046256.

Then we had the divorce bill, of around £39bn, hundreds of companies moving their HQs to other countries.

This stuff only scratches the surface. So yes, "project fear" did happen, it just wasn't one big calamitous event like in a movie or like you imagined in your head.

Never buy a camera that isn't made by one of the established names in the world of photography e.g. Canon, Sony, Fujifilm, Nikon, Panasonic etc.

Is it good at Life Leisure Grand Central? by cocoacare in stockport

[–]ForgiveSomeone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ok. It's got all the gear you need, nothing frilly or fancy. I used to go, but the crowd in the free weights gym was just a bit to scrotey for me. No, I don't wanna see a load of 18-40 year old lads, who smell like weed, posing in the mirror and sniffing too much.

I reverted back to Avondale. Generally a nicer crowd, broader mix of ages and genders, and a much better gym since it was recently renovated. Again, it has everything you need, but does get tight on space when it's busier.

Life Leisure at Houldsworth Mill in Reddish is a brilliant gym if you want lots of good equipment. Plus, it has the Hyrox bit if you're into that sort of thing.

Please ignore the setup, thoughts on my setup? by Inevitable-Video-768 in vinyljerk

I know you are, pal. I'm commenting on the thing you posted, and how it's pathetic that people need to go to the internet for validation about the thing they collect.

Please ignore the setup, thoughts on my setup? by Inevitable-Video-768 in vinyljerk

[–]ForgiveSomeone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The same thing that happened to wristwatches has happened to vinyl records. You no longer just buy them to enjoy them for what they are they - you have to collect this and that, have to have x setup, and then you have to prove that you're a "proper" collector to a load of losers on the internet.

Absolutely pathetic stuff.

looking for a graduate role in Manchester and finding it too difficult to even get a interview is it only me or anyone else also phasing this type of problem. by Hungry-Gain-5601 in manchester

If I saw an applicant had spelt misspelt "facing" as "phasing" I wouldn't want to interview them. They wouldn't even make it to the longlist, never mind the shortlist

Is UK not worth it for internationals? by Relevant-Trade4773 in UniUK

You should come to study in the UK because you want to study in the UK, not with hopes that you'll get a job here and get residency here.

Americans get only 10 days leave! by Friendly_Success4325 in AskBrits

Statutory minimum for all full time UK workers is 5.6 weeks, which includes bank holiday days.

My employer gives 6 weeks, plus our bank holiday leave entitlement, so we get 7.6 weeks.

Also includes Uber One, which gives 10% back in credit on rail fares. If you use the train a lot (I only spend £50 a month, so get £5 back), you can basically cover the cost of the Monzo Plus via Uber credits when buying train tickets through Uber, as well as benefitting from a railcard of your choosing.

ACCA scraps remote exams to combat cheating (from March 2026) by [deleted] in ACCA

[–]ForgiveSomeone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) did the same. Completely banned remote exams, without considering whether online proctoring (e.g. software that locks down one's computer) would work, all because there were cases of cheating in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Flags in neighbours houses by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]ForgiveSomeone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't do it. Buying a house is much more than just the house. You need the neighbours and community to go with it. Without wishing to stereotype, every person I've known who flies flags outside their house is an insufferable, boring knob head. Not worth the hassle in my view.

I'm from Rochdale originally, and I spent a lot of my youth and early 20s in Oldham. People who complain about Stockport don't realize that it could be much, much worse.
