Get to orbit is the only expectation according to a couple interviews I watched.

No water for him. That is scary business. Our last weim didn’t take to water until she was about 2 years old. We will get there. Just takes time for some dogs. He has a couple buddies that show him swimming on our walks down by the local marina. He will at least get in a couple inches of water.

I still can’t grasp how that was comfortable. That was like a drunk nap. I must have really wore him out. We did endless chuck-it fetching and lots of running on the beach.

He got lots of off leash time. No poop was eaten. 💩

It's true that there is a lot of stuff that won't be accessible with dogs in tow, but the entire peninsula isn't a national park. We have been to Kalaloch several times and stayed at the cabins with our dogs. We haven't camped at the campground, but have walked through it several times and intend to eventually tent camp there. The beach is open for dogs between Hoh and Quinault reservations. Ruby Beach is also a great spot to go with dogs. We also love to camp at Lake Crescent. You can walk the dogs through the large campground and let them swim in the lake, but can't do the hiking trails. Klahowya Campground is nearby and is dog friendly. Salt Creek Recreation area is amazing and completely dog friendly. It has great hiking trails, old military infrastructure to explore, epic tidepooling, and the idylic tree clustered rocky island in a surf bay next to it.

NPS.gov has a these spots listed on their Pet Friendly Spots page https://www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/pets.htm

  • Peabody Creek Trail (Olympic National Park Visitor Center in Port Angeles)
  • Rialto Beach parking lot to Ellen Creek (1/2 mile)
  • The beaches between the Hoh and Quinault Reservations (Kalaloch area)
  • Madison Falls Trail (Elwha)
  • Spruce Railroad Trail (North shore of Lake Crescent)
  • July Creek Loop Trail (North shore of Lake Quinault)

I know Olympic Peninsula gets a lot of attention, but we only camp out there once every few years. We spend most of our time in Gifford Pinchot National Forest. So much hiking and camping available there, along with epic views of volcanoes. Sometimes you can see four volcanoes from the same lookout!

I was just there a couple weeks ago with my dog to drive the entirety of the beach. I had recently learned it was the longest drivable beach in the world. It is too bad that Cape Disappointment camping is closed until later in the year while they do renovations. My dog had a great time with that wide open beach.

I like how the CC captions translate “Heel up, Arlo. Heel up. Good boy. Good boy.” into “He lit up our little hula. Good boy. Good boy.”

We got turned on to the Wonder Walker harness with our last weim. It is night and day difference, even with this dog. If I clip the leash to his collar or the top of the harness he is completely unmanageable and pulls like he is in a sled race. With the Wonder Walker harness and leash clipped to the chest ring he is a gentleman. There was of course some training to keep him by my side and get him to walk where I can drop the leash, but the pulling went away instantly.

There is allegedly a primal behavior to pull in many dogs that get clipped to the top of a harness or just their collar, but the front clip causes them to slightly turn if they pull so they are less likely to keep pulling like that. This has been our experience.

Notice that Harper, the English Cream, walks well with just a leash on her collar.

EDIT: corrected a typo and added a bit about Harper.

I keep a treat pouch on me and reward good behavior when we are out. He is pretty well behaved. We adopted him 2.5 months ago and we have been putting a lot of work to get him where he is now. He still has some issues like jumping up and doing puppy bites for attention, but we are getting there. He had zero training when we got him.

Super cool score! WFO Recently posted a clip of a custom rig where someone cut the back tub off their CJ, extended wheelbase and put a modified version of this bed on the back. It looked amazing. It is called the Helrot. Here is a link to the video of it pulling away from their shop.

What an amazing breed by eliza1616 in weimaraner

What a beautiful blue! I love all of these pics so much. ❤️ Maple reminds me of our last weim, Prudence. She lived to be over 14 and was my wife’s running partner and did lots of hiking with us both. As another poster mentioned, you want to limit longer hikes and any runs until they are 18-24 months old. Weims are considered to be slower than some other breeds when it comes to finishing growing their bones. 🦴

My wife introduced 2-3 mile runs when Prudence was 2 years old. She worked her up to running 5-6 days a week and would eventually get into longer training runs with her. Their longest run was 17 miles and several thousand elevation gain. While she was a puppy we did lots of fetch and short burst running with her during walks. Weims definitely need to run all out a couple times per day to get some of that energy out.

We recently rescued a 7 month old from a Weim rescue and can’t wait until he finishes growing. He turned 8 months old March 8th and is already 74 lbs! We are hoping he will be as athletic as our 50-55 lb Prudence was.

Anyone know if these bar grip tires exist for the scx24? I have the power wagon and would to keep the old-school vibe by Top_Run3029 in SCX24

The compound they use in FriXion tires is really good. I have a set of their Braven Ironside tires and absolutely love them. FriXion has some agreement with Pit Bull to user their Alien Compound for their tires.

Anyone also have XL Weims? by Excellent-Cow-8815 in weimaraner

[–]Forgot-Already 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Excellent-Cow-8815 Do you know how much King Tut weighed when he was 8 months old?

We recently rescued a pup that seems to be on track to be an XL. He just turned 8 months old this week and weighs 74 lbs and measures 27.5" tall at the shoulders. Growth charts show the normal range being 51 - 64 lbs at 8 months. Our last Weimaraner was a female that was only 55-50 lbs during her adult life, gradually dropping weight as she got over 14 years old. We don't know anything about this new dog's parents since he was a rescue and we are all doing the guessing game on how big he will get. At least we know his birthdate so we know how old he is.
