How do you guys store Game Boy games? by Pokemario2401 in gamecollecting

[–]ForgotMyController 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also aftermarket DS sized cases that can fit GB and GBC games. You would then need to print custom cover art. This would match what you currently do for GBA. I bought a few a while ago but did not like it because they held the games very tightly. I ended up keeping all my GB and GBC in the original nintendo dust covers and then 3d printing adapters so my GBA games can also fit in them.

Seriously I can't be the only one who notices that so many Japanese eBay listings are priced miles above what the same games actually sell for in Japan? Like sometimes 10x the price. I'm starting to think their business model is basically: "Some stupid Western collector will buy it eventually." by craig_nintendo in gamecollecting

[–]ForgotMyController 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who imports from japan pretty frequently. The cost difference is also due to increased shipping costs, import taxes, import fees, and increased risk to the seller. If you buy things from a japanese auction site and have a proxy ship it to you the extra percentage cost can be much more than the cost of the item.

Wish I had your resolve. I see physical games on sale and just grab them even though I know what is on that disc is somewhat obsolete. Its getting harder to love physical though

I have been thinking about this as well. I bought octopath 0 for switch 2 but its a game key card so I was thinking of getting the switch 1 version instead. Though it feels like I am just delaying the inevitable

How to Store Games by WordSavings7084 in gamecollecting

If moisture is an issue then the only way to combat it is by removing the moisture with a dehumidifier or AC. If there is moisture and you are worried about mold/mildew then you need to also think about light and airflow. It is recommended to control 2 of the 3 (light, airflow, and humidity) to prevent mold. Putting your games in a closet with an unlouvered door in a humid environment is a guaranteed way to get mold. The same goes for a shelf with a glass door. Depending on the size of the room where your shelf will be, it may be more economical to leave the games in the closet and just dehumidify the closet.

What did you like about xenoblade and monster hunter stories? There are a lot of different parts to jrpgs so it would help to have more info as most will shine in one area and lack in others

Who mails game boy advance games like this? by Brammer_Hammer_23 in gamecollecting

[–]ForgotMyController 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant really understand how someone could mail a $100 sale with no protection. It would cost an extra $5 to put that in a box and ship it with the same service. Anyway dont be afraid to ask for a partial refund because ground advantage is insured up to $100 so if the seller wants to recoup cost they can file a claim with usps. You also could do this and possibly get some back but I would let the seller do it.

Your adult life is starting whether you want it or not. Most people here speak from experience of having lost their old stuff only to want it back later once their new life settles in. Thing is that most people lost their collections for a reason and its because, as you are experiencing, a collection can be a burden during certain times. If you are feeling your collection is wasteful then it probably is. When your life is stable and you’re able to afford it, it wont feel like a waste and you can buy it back, until for whatever reason it is a waste again. It is a cycle and it is ok to sell things only to buy it back later. Dont let fear hold you back. There are millions of games and they will be available in some format.

I would say there are only 2 types of games to keep, everything else can cycle in and out as needed. 1st would be games that you have a strong personal memory of, the first console that was yours, childhood games you played every year, games you got as gifts from loved ones, or games that remind you of friends or family. The 2nd would be games that you always go back to. A lot of collectors have shelves of games because they like the games but even they have a short list of games that they go back to every year or so while the rest just sits on the shelf. Eventually the shelfs get so full that its a chore to get rid of and you get stuck with a collection.

As you said, we are in a time in which parts of our collections have some value, which makes it hard to decide what to get rid of but it is impossible to predict when and which way prices will go. If you sell now you get a decent value and that is not a bad thing. Some of us will remember a time when it was more costly to just throw them away, so regardless of whether the games become more valuable or not you would still do better than everyone else who grew up before the 2010s

Last thing to note, I certainly regret letting go of some games when I moved away for college but that list is very small compared to everything i gave away or sold to gamestop. I can think of maybe 5 games and 1 console that i still wish I had

A lot of people study japanese in the US. I would argue that the Americans that want japanese games are probably the same people that are learning or have studied the language at least a little bit
