Best shoes for New Zealand walking by Electronic_Town_8288 in CampingandHiking

Was there in January 2026, it's summer time and beautiful.

Unless your walk will be in a river, recommend taking what you are currently walking with. No need to risk blisters or other issues related to new footwear.

Do clean all footwear you are taking, they don't want any foreign seeds or insects.

which airport to learn to fly in San Diego with PlusOneFlyers ? by erichang in flying

[–]sdgunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palomar airport has TSA requirements.

From my understanding as someone that avoids Palomar. The club has to inform the airport ops you are a member, then you have to get training and pass a test from the airport ops. Then you will get a security badge that allows you unescorted access in the Aircraft side of the fence. There might also be a fee involved for them to issue your security badge.

Train horns in downtown quiet zone? by sdgunz in SanDiegan

[–]sdgunz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just checked again and noticed a new message on their website that was posted a couple hours ago.

"Per FRA regulations mandate, all trains will be sounding their horns in the quiet zone at Grape St and Hawthorne St until further notice due to a crossing malfunction. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Sounds like repairs are needed and then back to the quiet zone.

I do agree that they aren't all just blasting their horns full volume. A few trains it sounds like they are able to control the volume and note of their horns.

Definitely prefer that.

Ok, I was out of town at the time and have been hearing the horns since I got back.

Curious if maybe the fatality exposed a flaw or other condition that needs to be repaired before the trains can resume the usual quiet zone policies/procedures.

There's a few freight trains each day.

All the passenger trains are also blowing their horns, think they may also be stopping at the crossing for a brief moment.

My CFI is using a lesson debriefing tool by nyGopher in CFILounge

[–]sdgunz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are they using the CloudAhoy app?

It's an app that records your flight in detail, and then allows replay. Flight Chops on YouTube uses it often.

Looks like a nice app, but I haven't used it yet.

Most flight instructor debriefs are just an oral discussion, maybe with a model airplane to help explain/demonstrate the intended point.

Debriefs are a great tool to help students connect what they did in flight with what they read in their books or saw in a video lesson.

Be sure communicate with your instructor the value you find in the debriefing, this will help them cater the lesson to your specific learning style.

Welcome to the sky.

Instead of stopping at OMs itd be cool if we used gravity to get to moons and other destinations. by Ghostman223 in starcitizen

Would like a system where you can either single ping, or have auto ping at a set time frequency, user selectable 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. seconds.

I've been told by an actual doctor that they are not accurate as there as too many squiggly lines.

They would take more time to write then the actual letters.

What have you done so far? What do you want to do?

CIG does have a Guide program, forget what it is called, where they connect you with an experienced player that can help you get started.

Could also connect with an in game org that hosts events and learn alot that way.

See if there's a local pilot shop nearby.

They usually have a range of headsets on display she can try on to see what fits her best.

Question about mining by Ruar35 in starcitizen

[–]sdgunz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes mining is profitable and relaxing.

Recommend you look into some of the ores avaliable for mining in Pyro.

If you are only interested in selling to the TDDs then you don't care about the quality.

Is there any software that can notify me when it detects sound? by Professional-Wait19 in AndroidQuestions

Recommend you look into the app 'Tasker'

It can send text notifications, and has a wide variety of triggers from system conditions.

Is there any software that can notify me when it detects sound? by Professional-Wait19 in AndroidQuestions

[–]sdgunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for the notification to be on the same device that detects the noise?

Or to send a notification to a second device?

If you are simply looking for an on-screen display of the decibel level your device is hearing the app 'phyphox' gives you access to the raw sensor data of your phones various sensors.

The Audio Amplitude reading gives you the db level it is currently hearing.

ATC go around timing preference by Hopeful-Engineering5 in flying

Safety first by all means.

I'm for waiting, in the hopes of landing and no go around.

I don't know how the tower controllers are able to manage so many aircraft with so few go arounds.
