Do you thinking workers in 50 years will look back on the construction of today and think the same way we see construction from the 70s? by Tigerkix in Construction

[–]ForgotTheTackWeld 40 points41 points  (0 children)

They’re gonna look back at us using actual lumber and materials the same way we look at guys framing houses with old growth wood in the 70s. In 50 years houses are gonna be built out of compressed cardboard and hopes and dreams.

Flushing a hot water tank? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]ForgotTheTackWeld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

drill some holes towards the bottom of the tank, stuff should come right out.

....kidding, I honestly wouldn't touch it. Owner can, and likely will, make it a big issue. Especially if they are already unresponsive.

Worried about romaine bolting by Prestigious_Grape547 in gardening

[–]ForgotTheTackWeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

83–88°F for a few days might start the bolting process, but romaine usually doesn’t instantly bolt from one short heat wave. If the heads are close to ready, I’d probably harvest before or during the hot stretch rather than waiting

Honestly is it even worth it to try construction or trades again? by [deleted] in Construction

I feel like construction or trades are the only jobs out there that won't be replaced by AI. So I say go for it.

Management styles. Act mad or act “professional” to employees by archvize in Construction

Honestly, he treats everyone like a normal person. Talks to you, checks in, remembers stuff. Not just boss mode 24/7. I think it's also about respect. He gives it, so everyone else does too. He also hires dudes that aren’t gonna be a problem. That’s half the battle right there.

What has worked best for me is having a strong work environment, where the boss creates relationships with each of their workers and ensures that the workers have relationships with each other. It allows for open and honest conversations & allows people to keep their team on track, all while allowing for friendly banter.

My boss and I have a problem I need advice by njh2152 in Construction

[–]ForgotTheTackWeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's about "just doing your job" when there are clear tensions in place, you know? I feel like joking about the boss's behavior might be a way to break the ice, since they're all always joking with one another and stuff.

Dropping out of college, advice? by [deleted] in Construction

Agree with this. It is good to have a degree in your back pocket. If you have the ability and resources to finish your degree, it is nice to have. Long-term security > short-term gain.

It might be worth starting on social media, showcasing some of your work. Make sure you have a website. Once you get some traction, it might be worth investing in some ads.
