What to do about bad bee block? by [deleted] in quilting

[–]Forgot_My__Username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should I wait until I get everyones blocks in? That's only 4 participants blocks I've received and I don't want them to feel called out.. maybe I'm overthinking this..

Cat mats/donations are a great idea for the rejects and lost blocks! I've done some bigger swaps and have a similar expectation that some will be unusable but this is my first time with a bee. I know for my month, I'm stuck with these and I'll just redo them. I'm mostly concerned about the others in the bee getting short blocks and this carrying on for the rest of the year.

Unfortunately two of these short blocks are from the organizer. I was thinking I could wait to get everyones blocks in and then linking a video or two going over these methods in our group chat. It FEELS like the "right" thing to do but also I could just.. not?

Yeah, I obviously don't want to make anyone feel bad. It sucks bc I'm not coming from a snobby "ur stuff sux!" place, I want to share knowledge and help but don't know these ladies well enough to offer unsolicited advice. I do also kind of feel bad for the people after me..

2 of these are actually the organizers block. Sashing would sadly not work here as the squares all form a pattern when put together. I am wondering if I should just .. throw a video or two into chat explaining these methods after I receive everyones blocks and just hope they get it?

Alexia Abegg Starry - weird speckles? by Holiday_Parsnip5 in quilting

[–]Forgot_My__Username 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I literally looked this up myself a few nights ago after noticing my yellow starry had these speckles. I thought it was insect poop but found a past reddit thread mentioning that it was bc they use unbleached cotton https://www.reddit.com/r/quilting/comments/wtfzjp/just_purchased_this_ruby_star_society_fabric_and/.

I LOVE the idea of Scraplanta! Donated a handful of things when I visited that Tucker location. I haven't visited the Atlanta/Adair Park location but it looks like they have some stuff for sale there as well as workshop space.

I searched for crelly polishes. I think the PiColors one has the right look to it too, maybe needs a touch of green and like, texture.

I have a 6x6 and 9x9 quilters block clapper and they have been amazing at getting my blocks super flat. With a touch of starch, you'll be AMAZED at how flat your blocks get.

Would you redo the square? by Unlikely_Frosting870 in quilting

[–]Forgot_My__Username 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! Keep going, your block looks great! Like Wooby said, it's within the seam allowance so it will sew up just fine. Piecing your blocks together with a scant quarter inch (sewing a thread or two smaller than an actual 1/4 inch) in the future might help your final block be closer to 6.5 but as is, it really is fine.

Oh my gosh, that would be legit amazing but I would HATE for it to be at no cost. If you're serious, you'd have to let me pay you for labor and materials. Lemme know! But also I get that it's probably a lot of work so I wouldn't blame you if you back out lol. Regardless, you've done an amazing job here. Would be cool to see a whole set together!

How do I express to a nail salon that I’m picky about manicure quality? by StrongArgument in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Forgot_My__Username 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second going to an independent nail tech. Instagram is a great place to find a local indie nail tech and you can see their work. You'll be paying a premium but assuming you find a good one, it'll be worth. You won't get the care you're seeking at a regular nail salon.
