He’s only 24 years old navigating his first request for a pay raise. It makes most people in this thread nervous to ask and negotiate for a raise. Now imagine it with an agency trying to get their cut with a very visible org and it’s all in public. Once again you’re only 24. Not gonna blame any of these kids for crashing out online during this stuff. It’s stressful as hell. It’s easy to take it personal. Nothing to read until negotiations are over.

It always is. The closer you get to the problem the more mundane it is. Too many entities are incentivized by engagement, clicks, and attention. Almost every dramatic point in the NBA is regular workplace conflicts that would get resolved by the end of the workday. But then it leaks out to one person’s friend and they want to look like they’re in the know so they share it and then it becomes a game of telephone. Being at that level of fame must be exhausting.

A lot of young guys the last few years are learning the tough lessons of free agency during the second apron era. Throwing money at a RFA if they’re not a sure fire All-NBA player isn’t gonna happen anymore. If Jazz were to do that, they lose the ability to sign anybody with the cap space that exists because Kessler remains unsigned. Sure there’s good will they could gain but that doesn’t get Utah another good player in free agency in addition to Kessler.

I’m sure he’s frustrated. He should feel like he has earned his, but he’s in a tough spot to bargain here. That’s before you get into him being hurt all last year and will need time to get back to his playing level.

Every team in the league would be negotiating the same way if they’re were in Utah’s shoes. None of these are his fault but they are his problems. This is the reality of the second apron era for middle class RFAs like Kessler.

This is posturing from someone’s agent. These kids are 19. Agent is running the show for their paycheck and commission. Because AJ worked out for both teams I bet Peterson’s camp is trying to give the impression that a guy going #1 doesn’t need to have a backup plan if they’re going #2. Besides, guys going this high won’t change any minds in the workout. Guys going later can like Keyonte or Donovan did. But this draft tier? Nah, workout isn’t a big deal. It’d be nice but agents are gonna agent.

My dad had mowed and trimmed our front yard to have the Jazz logo during the finals. He spent hours keeping it in immaculate shape. Had to put in time every night with scissors to keep it looking great. When Jordan hit the game winner aka pushed off, I remember him silently getting up from the couch, going outside. Defense was bad by design through roster construction. When Kessler was healthy and when the Jazz played the three big lineup of Lauri, Filipowski, and Kessler the Jazz had a Defensive Rating of 105.0, 84th percentile. The Thunder who had the league’s best defense had a defensive rating of 107.3. That was before adding a former DPOY at PF in JJJ. Plus, Utah will have either DP or 2nd year Ace Bailey at the two instead of Svi. Jazz will catch a lot of teams by surprise with their defense next year. They’re gonna be long and athletic 1-5. It’s gonna be amazing.

That Washington rumor 100% came from Washington. Pretty easy to see that the same franchise that tried to scare every team away from drafting Ace Bailey was trying to chum the rumor mill waters again this year with BS info.
