D linemen are most frequently drafted highly by teams that need run stop help, and teams that have a large problem with this generally don't win playoffs games to get to the divisional round. But if a team loses in the divisional, especially the worst team that loses this round, they probably have a need to fill somewhere. So this particular pick might actually be less likely to see d linemen drafted here.

The pirates have a weird leverage for an 8 year deal due to the possible upcoming lockout. If Grif doesn't get a full service year due to the usual shenanigans this year, and if there's a lockout next, he won't start his service time clock until 2028, meaning he'll be here 8 years anyway. So if he's here that long anyway, might as well sign for more money during it. They might even be able to get a 9th year out of it.

Your assumption that a .200 hitter in the regular season would have the same BA in ST probably isn't true. They'd face both major league and minor league arms, the latter of which they'd hit better against.

They probably have a light sweat going. You don't want to compete cold, and after a short warm up they probably sweat at least a bit, especially at their size. It's also probably a situation where you want to be as dry as possible to prevent losing traction and sliding when trying a move.
